A.N: Chapter 18, 19, and 20 will take place over the same day/night. Also, that's his game day outfit up top. In america, high schoolers usually dress up in nice shirts and jeans or khakis on game days then change into their uniform at the game. Idk how ur high school games worked but that's how mine was************************
E.J's POV:
It's been a few days since I last texted Ricky. But I have valid excuses for not texting him back: I've been busy dealing w/ my parents acting normal like I didn't just catch them having sex one day, I've been looking at college sports programs online, and I've been hanging out with the lacrosse guys a lot.
It's so stressful being an only child and Caswell who is the most popular kid in school.
There are so many things people don't know about me.
People just assume things about me and I hate it.
I wish that I could talk to Ricky in school like how I talk to Chris and Jackson but it's just different. It's hard to explain but it's this whole ego reputation thing. I can't just talk to underclassmen.
Thankfully, today is Friday which means game day. The first game of the season is a huge deal at East High.
It's also the first day that guys have to wear game day clothes which I prefer not to do but I'm wearing a nice button up shirt and jeans anyway so that Coach Lerman doesn't yell at me later during the pep talk.
I know that he's close with my dad but I'm not really one to break the team rules, especially on game day.
"Yo, Caswell! Lookin' good. Ready for the first game?" I hear one of my teammates call me from down the hall as I walk into school taking my winter jacket off.
"Yeah, I'm ready. My dad and I have been practicing defense and goalie moves in our backyard even though it's cold outside," I lie to him as I walk up to him and recognize him, he's Chris' friend, Mark, another senior who is one of my so-called friends.
My dad and I are still in an awkward place in our relationship since I caught him doing it with my mom. And my mom and is still pretending to be that perfect PTA mom, I hate it.
Everyone in school thinks that the Caswell family is rich and perfect but we aren't.
"That's good to hear. Hey have you seen Chris around? I have to give him his tie, he asked me if he could borrow one since he couldn't find one this morning," I listen to Mark talk but don't look at him instead of paying attention to him talk about Chris I am distracted by looking down the hall for any sign of Ricky but he's not in this hallway.
"Huh? Oh no. I just got here. Hey, I'll see you around. I got to put my stuff in my locker," I look back at him then head down the hall with my coat, backpack and gym bag to my locker where Chris and a few other teammates are talking in the hallway with some girls from the dance team.
"Hey E.J! Guess what? My girlfriend, Tristilina said that she can help you find a date for prom since she's on the dance team," I hear Chris' loud voice from a few feet away while I put my stuff in my locker.
"Hey Chris. What's up? Are you ready for the big game today?," I walk over to him after I shut my locker and try to change the subject.
I don't know why he is so big on getting every guy on the lacrosse team a date to prom. It's not like all of the guys on the team are straight, Jack isn't and he's a sophomore.
I like that guy and I'm still surprised that he made the varsity team since he's still a sophomore like Ricky is.
"Yup! I'm sure we're going to win and I'm throwing a team party at my house afterwards no matter what happens at the game," I watch Chris put his arm around my shoulder while we walk over to some of the other lacrosse guys who are talking in the hallway.
