Moving to London for work had been difficult. Buying new things, finding aa way to get all of your belongings to your new house. And you had a house, not a tiny apartment. A two bedroom house all to yourself. Admittedly, it had been lonely. But it was better than everything reminding you of him.

Even though you knew he had a tendency to disappear for days at a time, he would always let you know he was alright, even if it was just a note on the fridge. You figured it was some secret military or government thing, until he explained that he was the avatar of Khonshu. The Egyptian god of the moon acted through your boyfriend.

And then, two days later, he disappeared without a trace.

It had taken years to get over it, but you had managed it. You managed to leave it all behind and forget it happened. Until right now when you decided to visit a museum close to where you lived.

Everything reminded you of him, of Khonshu. You blamed Khonshu for it all, even if you weren't sure whether he had been crazy or if there really was Egyptian gods, since Thor and Loki had turned out to be real.

"Do you want to know the truth?" said a familiar voice. You hadn't heard it in years and yet you could recognise it instantly. Whatever else was being said faded as the air was sucked from your lungs. As much as you wanted to ignore it, you had to know if it was really him.

A man rushed away through and the security guard moved to follow.
"Let him go." It was definitely his voice, but people could still sound the same.
"Arthur?" you hesitantly asked. He turned and while his hair and clothes were different, it was definitely him. "Arthur Harrow?"
"(Y/n)," he whispered. You looked at the security guard who moved closer as you walked towards him.
"I..." You weren't sure if you wanted to slap him for leaving or kissing but settled on doing nothing, for now. "What was that?"
"The man?" You nodded. He'd seemed in a rush to leave, and not in a good way at all. "He's ill, I want to help but he doesn't want to help himself."

You just nodded and he sighed.
"I'm so sorry, (Y/n). Will you let me explain?"
"Was is Khonshu?" you asked. He nodded. "I haven't finished looking around the exhibits."
"I understand." He looked down, frowning.
"Come and walk with me and explain," you said as you started walking.

You stopped to look at a display of canopic jars and Arthur stood next to you, leaning on his cane. There were descriptions of them in large writing annd photographs of other kinds of jars.

"Khonshu wanted me to do something dangerous. I didn't want to, he said it was the last mission, but he'd said that before," he started. You looked at him, at his solemn face. All you could think of was the day he'd cooked you your favourite meal and explained Khonshu and all that went with it. "If it failed, I could have put you in danger. If I refused, Khonshu would have found a way to hurt you. I didn't realise that he can't do much unless his avatar does it."

"You could have said something," you said as you started walking. You weren't sure where, since you'd looked around half of this part already. "I thought you were dead."
"I escaped Khonshu and pledged myself to Ammit," he said. "I tried to find you, but you were gone."
"I moved here, got the offer through work. Figured I could do with a change," you said simply. But you had been right, it had been Khonshu behind him disappearing. "Everything just reminded me of you, and how alone I was so I moved here."

"(Y/n)-"
"I actually thought you were dead, Arthur," you said. You stopped walking and turned to look at him. "I told myself you were dead. Because it was better than you leaving with someone else like everyone thought. The cops told me that if you took your passport and things, then you'd probably left on your own and with someone else."
"I'd never leave you for someone else." His hand reached for yours and you let him take it. "I truly am sorry, (Y/n). I know you probably don't believe me, but I meant it."

Sighing, you wished you could believe him. But the entire thing seemed unbelievable.
"Is there a way to prove this?" you asked. "To prove Khonshu is real, that Ammit is real." He pulled your hand forward and lifted his sleeve to show a tattoo of scales, like what would have been used to weigh the heart of the dead against the feather of Ma'at.

"Wait, Ammit is the devourer of the dead," you said. Unless you remembered wrong, it had been a while since you'd researched anything relating to the Egyptian mythology. "Anubis weighed the scales."
"Ammit grew tired of waiting until death for the evil to receive their punishment," said Arthur as he took your other hand and held them in his own. The tattoo of the scales started moving, back and forth. "So I devoted my time to bringing her justice to those who are evil. Why wait until someone had committed the horrendous acts when you could prevent them?"

The scales turned green and he smiled.
"Red for evil, green is good. I always knew you had a good heart," he said softly. And the way he spoke it...
"I tried to forget you, and now..." All the times he'd held you, all the times where you'd used being cold as an excuse to be close to him. Everything, good and bad came back to you, all the happiness and hard times. You pulled your hands away.
"I understand," he whispered. "You don't have to forgive me." He walked around to you face you, and you took a deep breath as your eyes met.

"And if I want to?" you asked. You doubted you could forget everything and move on a second time. "I've missed you. And now I know you're alive... Khonshu can't threaten you?"
"No. Even if he tried, I could stop him now." You reached for his hand and he intertwined his fingers with yours. "I'd have to leave soon, probably to Egypt."
"For Ammit?" you asked and he nodded.
"You could come with me, I'd pay for all of it, the flights, hotel, and-"
"Arthur," you cut him off and he fell quiet. "You won't just leave without saying a word."
"Never, one of my greatest sins was abandoning you."
"Then how about you buy me something from the gift shop and we try again?"
"I quite like the sound of that," he said, smiling. You couldn't help but smile back, despite everything. "What would you like? More notebooks for your collection."
"You don't need to call me out like that," you said, grinning. "But... I'm not going to say no if you're offering."
