When Detroit was evacuated in the aftermath of the android protests, or, as you had heard some people calling it, android uprising, you managed to stay behind.

And now you were low on food and had no way of leaving without it being ridiculously suspicious. As much as you hated it, you had to get food from somewhere and the house belonging to your weird neighbour was as good a place as any. It wouldn't have surprised you if he had stockpiled food as everything had been happening.

The street seemed to be empty as you headed from the front to the back. You tried it, in case it had been left open. It hadn't. Sighing you tried to remember the video tutorial you had found and tried picking the lock with two paperclips.

After a while with no open door, you hit the wall next to you in frustration. Your shoulders slumped as you groaned and your stomach rumbled. Why couldn't it be as easy as it was in movies? Since you did need food, you decided to carry on picking the lock.

“What are you doing?”

Flinching, you turned towards the source of the voice. It looked to be an android with dark brown hair. It wasn't a more common android, you hadn't seen any models that looked the same.

“Is this your home?” he asked.
“Uh...” That probably gave it away but you probably should say it's your house and you lost the key. But you couldn't bring yourself to lie to him. “I live next door, I'm kind of hungry and I don't have any food left.”
“You're human?” He had a puzzled look on his face. You nodded in response. “I thought humans were evacuated from the city.”
“Most of them, I'm still here. I don't think I've seen any other humans,” you said with a shrug.

“My name is Connor, I can take you to some food,” he said. He offered his hand out to help you up and you took it. Connor effortlessly pulled you to your feet.
“I'd like that,” you said with a small smile.
“Come with me.”

You followed Connor down thhe Street and towards the city.
“Why did you stay in Detroit?” He asked.
You shrugged. “The androids protested peacefully, I don't see why they'd be randomly violent towards one human.”
“That would be a logical assumption to make. There is a few androids that are angry and maybe wouldn't be as accepting with your presence but the majority are just glad to be free.”
“I'm glad you're all free too, it always felt wrong, having androids do our work,” you said. “It was slavery.” You noticed Connor was smiling at you and you smiled back.

“After we have gotten you some food and have eaten, would you like to spend some time with me? I'd like to get to know you,” said Connor. He looked hopeful and smiled wider. It would be nice after two weeks of seeing no one.
“I want to get to know you too,” you said. “Besides, most of my friends had androids and thought all this was stupid and were glad to leave. They're not really my friends anymore but it's kind of left me alone.”
“I could be your friend,” said Connor. It was kind of adorable.

“So... what do you want to do later? Take a walk, games, listen to music?” you asked. You were kind of excited about this.
“What would you prefer?”
“Maybe games? I have some old board games that I've been wanting to play for a while...”
“Sounds fun,” he said. The two of you smiled at each other and you had the feeling this would be great, despite how hungry you were.
