A/N: While the previous 13 endings have been technically "canon", this ending is most definitely not, and I mean that with absolutely no sarcasm whatsoever. The "canon" endings will be explained later, because I know it is confusing.

C/W: descriptions and depictions of violence and injuries related to war, as well as heavy emotional damage. Prepare your tissues.

*Your POV*

Life on base had really gotten stagnant since all of the restructuring took place. With you and Hyunjin being the only ones remaining of Bravo Company, you two had been shifted into nearly entirely administrative and instructive roles around the base; Hyunjin working with the more mechanical side of operations with "Tech" and you being the instructor sergeant for a lot of the new airmen who were arriving on base.

Thankfully, you weren't all that bored, because for some reason, the Ministry of National Defence had ramped up activities for the fighter pilots that were steadily arriving on base, with an equal amount of machinery for them being delivered as well. That meant more machinery to inspect before and after their training drills, and more airmen to teach basic first aid and emergency situations.

Luckily, you two finally had a free morning, one you had spent in your barracks. You were busy catching up on paperwork you had fallen behind on, and Hyunjin was taking a well-earned slow morning after a more than extended night fixing a fighter jet until the early hours of the morning.

"Hey, hyung. Have you gone to eat yet today?" Hyunjin asked from his bed.

"Nope, been too busy getting all of this paperwork done for the recruits." You replied, pointing at the literal stack of papers on your desk. "Are you thinking of heading out for lunch soon?"

"Yeah. I figured I'd get some nutrients in before one of the recruits inevitably screws up another jet."

"Give me 2 minutes to finish this set of forms, and then we can go."

During said 2 minutes, you could make out even more jet fighter engines spool up nearby, signalling probably another test run of sorts for a fighter squadron that was now housed on base. But this one sounded like it was an even bigger deal from the sheer level of volume that was leaking through the walls. So now that you were intrigued, you quickly wrapped up your work and grabbed your essentials to leave the barrack, with Hyunjin in tow.

What you saw outside truly was unlike anything you had ever seen during your time on base. Because on the main runway, there was at least a full squadron of fighter jets lined up and ready for take off. That would explain your opening of your schedule in the morning, because it looked like nearly all of the combat-ready recruit airmen were on the tarmac for this mission.

"Did you get briefed on this?" You asked Hyunjin.

"Nope, but it would explain why we had a sudden expedited request to flight-check pretty much all of the aircraft yesterday." He shook his head.

"That's pretty much all of the training fighters we have, isn't it?"

"And some from the reserve squadron as well."

As the two of you walked towards the mess hall amongst the chatter and organised chaos of the ongoing mission, you noticed that there weren't too many people out and about on base. Typically during midday, there were some people walking about and going off to different buildings, but seemingly this mission was really keeping a lot of people on base busy.

When you arrived at the mess hall was when you found the rest of the people on base, as there was quite a massive crowd huddled around the TV on the other end of the mess line in the hall. But seeing that there wasn't a queue for food, you quickly walked over to get your tray of food.
