The kiss

"Hey" she whispered softly as the door closed, she turned back to see him. His body was covered with wires that connected to machines. Veins sticking out of his arms prominently as the IV drip worked fluids into his veins.

"Don't look at me like that" Jaemin said with a sigh and she looked at him again

"I don't like to see people like that, don't pity me" Jaemin said, jaw slightly tense as he watched her look at him like everyone else in this world did. As if his illness was the biggest thing about him.

"I'm not pitying you....okay listen it's kinda hard not to" she said with a smile, her smile immediately lighting his face. The hospital heart rate machine was unfortunately more awkward than his watch as it started to beep at a faster rate. They awkwardly chuckled at the sight of the numbers going up.

"I missed that" she whispered, loud enough for him to hear

"Really?" He asked

"Mhmm it sounds like a....horse race" She joked making him laugh, the first smile in forever that had reached his eyes. They both remained looking at each other, being grateful that the other was existing.

"I'm sorry" Jaemin said and she pursed her lips into a thin line

"Its oka-"

"Its not...I know you don't forgive people easily, don't forgive me just because of the fact that I'm in a hospital bed" he said

"Fine then, I won't forgive you, guess you're just gonna have to make it up for me" she shrugged

"How do i do that?" He asked, sitting up straighter as he had gained more energy

"Hmm....get better soon...you can make it up to me by getting out of here" She said and his smile fell slightly, his negative thoughts creeping back in slowly

"Why? Are you scared that you can't do it? I won't forgive you until you do" she said, trying to encourage him through her teasing

"What if I don't though" he said, seeing right through her teasing behaviour

"Jaem-"

"What if this is all my life really adds up to be?" He asked and she sighed

"If you talk like that then you're not going to recover quickly" she said, reaching out her hand to meet his, being wary if the IV and oximeter on his hand.

The sudden contact made him lift his face to look at her, the beeping of the machine getting faster

"Whether you believe in yourself or not...I believe in you, so does Haechan, Jeno, Renjun, your grandad, Kun, Dahyun...list goes on" she said and he smiled a small smile

"You better make it out alive if you want that vetements shirt back" she said with a smirk and his jaw dropped

"You still have it?! Thief!" He said with a hearty laugh as she poked out her tongue in response

"I'll be stealing the T-shirt with the cat on it if you don't make it out" she said with a smirk

"No..don't you dare, that's my favourite shirt" Jaemin said with a chuckle, squeezing her hand reassuringly

"Plus, I'll let you meet Kai if you're lucky" she said, and he chuckled

"I heard about the dance thing, I'm really proud of you" Jaemin said l. Her eyes sparkled at the comment. People always stated that they were happy for her and encouraged her, no one even told her they were proud. She couldn't remember the last time she made anyone proud.

"I'm very, very proud of you Cinderella" he said with a smile as he watched her eyes glow at his words

"Thank you" she whispered with a small pout

"Don't worry about me okay? Focus on yourself for the next few days, I'll come see you when I'm better" Jaemin said as he watched her ready to protest

"I know you want to come see me everyday and make sure I'm okay but...let me focus on myself, you do the same" he said and she smiled a small smile

"Make sure you take your medicine" she ordered as she approached him to help fluff his pillow a bit more

"I will" he whispered

"And make sure you eat a high iron diet, red meat and green vegetables, no sugar" she said

"Yes mum" he chuckled

"And make sure you binge the office, US version only, laughter is good for the hear-" her words were cut off by the soft impact of his lips on hers as he slowly reached up to meet her lips. The heart rate machine only sped up to an abnormal pace making her chuckle into the kiss, exchanging a soft smile as they distanced themselves

"I missed you" Jaemin said honestly as he looked into her eyes

"I missed you too Nana" she said their moment was soon interrupted as Haechan and Jeno walked back into the room.

Jaemin immediately let go of Yeseul's hand, realising that she was seeing Jeno. He didn't want to cross the line even though he already did. Yeseul was like the forbidden fruit, he wanted her but he couldn't have her.

"How are you feeling now?" Haechan asked

"A lot better" Jaemin said with a smile.
