"...wa...ke...up...wake...up...""...?"
"Y/n, get off your ass and do the dishes!"
"Gah...!"
I woke up in cold sweat. My breathing was irregularly fast and my body felt heavy. I didn't know where I was and felt extremely disorientated. I groaned as I tried to sit up, keyword being tried. Immediately, I felt lightheaded and had to lay back down.
'Was that.... Uncle?' I could've sworn I just heard him yell at me to get up.
I felt numb all around. I then realized it was actually a dull pain I felt in my muscles. My throat was especially painful. I tried to let out a hum to test if my voice was still there but only a hoarse sound came out.
I slowly regained my senses and was able to inspect my surroundings more clearly. The room wasn't well lit so that didn't help much. But from what I could see, there were many beds lined up into two rows facing opposite each other and few were occupied by people I didn't recognize.
The walls, ceiling and flooring were made with one type of wood and gave it a plain feel. Clearly this room was not built with the intention of being a living space. Every second bed had an end table with oil lanterns placed upon it and provided the dim lighting in the darkness.
"Itto."
I strained to sit upright but only managed to prop myself up with my elbows. I craned my neck and looked at the beds around me but couldn't tell which one was him, it was too dark to see. Poor decisions were made when I quickly got up to look for him but immediately regretted it. I was hit with a wave of drowsiness and stumbled, nearly falling onto my face. I managed to gain my balance by grabbing onto my bed frame and had to catch my breath from the little movement I made.
"You're supposed to be in your bed." I looked down at the bed beside me to see a soldier with a bandage wrapped around his head. "My friend... Must find." I struggled to say. He sat up with a soft groan and tilted his head, "The guy with the horns?" I nodded my head frantically. "Isn't he the guy over there?"
A/N: (NPC. No assumptions.)
My eyes darted to the bed across from mine and unsteadily made my way towards it to see for myself. "Oi, Miss. You need to rest!" He whispered loudly as to not wake the others. I ignored him and kept going.
Dragging myself towards the bed, I held onto the bed frame for support and looked down at the familiar oni. My breath hitched at the state he was in.
He was asleep. A clean white bandage could be seen covering the lower part of his torso from beneath the blanket that was pulled over him. A few smaller bandaids decorated his face and arms from the minor injuries. Overall, he seemed okay. This is judging by what I could see.
"Itto..." I took another step but nearly tripped as I moved too quickly over to his side and kneeled down next to the bed. His chest rose and fell as he breathed, allowing me to relax ever so slightly. Yet, it still pained me to see him like this. I hesitated before carefully grabbing his hand with both of mine. I held it, tears forming as I watched his resting face.
I was so scared. What if it was worse? He could've died. That was my biggest fear. It was the whole reason I didn't want him to come along in the first place. If I hadn't gotten us here in time...
I didn't notice when another person entered the room and approached me after seeing that I was there. "Your friend is fine. Doc says the knife didn't puncture any important organs and he'll make a full recovery. However, he's been unconscious since you two got here." A male's voice informed from behind me.
