Chapter 32: The Half-Breeds

I didn't remember much after Lars put a spell on me, but when I broke out of it, I was confused as what happened. I was even surprised when I saw Cyril and Lucian lying unconscious on the ground and I realized that I probably did that to them when I was under the magic. I almost felt like throwing up and crying when I did that two of my best friends, but Edward calmed me down.

I also noticed Lars was getting scared as Teacher Julian was approaching him and telling him he was gonna take him in. However, Zeke came rushing in and blocked him and immediately Edgar recognized him. Zeke also recognized Edgar and called him "big brother", which got me surprised because I heard Edgar talking about his brother many times before. I never once thought that he was here in the Demon World with Lars.

Edgar walked up to Zeke and the two stared at each other in silence. Edgar was the first to say something and he said, "I can't believe you're here, Zeke. When I asked The Elders, they said you were dead."

Zeke shook his head and said, "I'm not. Like many who pair up with outside clans that are not the fae, I was outcast."

I was confused by what he meant, when Julian spoke first before I could ask and he said, "Young man, are you saying you're a Half-Breed?"

Zeke nodded and told him he was. I then asked while still being held by Edward, "I don't get it? What's a Half-Breed?"

Edward looked down at me and said, "Half-Breeds are crossovers from two different clans. Many beings outside of their own would pair up with someone who's not one of them. Once their children are born, they have the blood of both clans as well as different attributes from either parent."

"Like cat ears, fairy wings or reptile scales?" I asked and Edward nodded telling me exactly.

Julian looked over to me and said, "You see Johan, after some Half-Breeds are born, most clans accept them and make them a part of their family. But there are others, like the Fae clan, who don't accept them because they're not Pure-Breeds. The Fae Clan choose to either banish the Half-Breed child or execute them. They also go as far as to execute the fae parent or exile or execute the parent from the other clan."

Zeke looked down sadly with his ears folded and he said, "And that's what the Elders did to mine and Edgar's father and my mother. My mother was from the Leo clan and after I was born, the Elders somehow found out about her and Father's relationship. They were both publicly executed in front of everyone and I watched it all. When I was old enough to walk, I ran away before they could do the same to me."

Zeke looked at Edgar and said, "I'm sorry, big brother. I know your mother and mine were good friends. But I didn't want to stay with a clan that doesn't accept Half-Breed children as their own."

Edgar shook his head and said, "It's okay, Zeke. No one blames you for being born half of what you are."

Edward looked down and said, "Unfortunately, there are some who still discriminate Half-Breeds to this day. Even though the rules and laws have changed since the first king, people these days see Half-Breeds, along with other clans, as inferior beings."

Julian let out a frustrated sigh and said, "High noble families also use the word the first king used whenever they talk about their servants, clans or humans from other noble families or likewise that are lower than them. They call them Breeds."

Lucian, who regained consciousness along with Cyril, heard what Julian said and he stood up and said while walking to the group, "I've always hated that word; Breed. Every time my father and I go to party with other nobles, it pains my soul that others are talking about Gabriel like he's nothing. They even went as far as call us that along with Damien's family. Even poor Tidus is labeled a Breed by his grandmother after what his father did."
