„In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."
The week after the selection of the champions had been incredibly hard for the Gryffindors, especially for Harry. While the Gryffindors, except for Ron who still hadn't calmed down, were still celebrating Harry as a hero, the other houses had put their very own reactions on display.
So it wasn't just Hailey who completely ignored Serena, but it seemed the entire Hufflepuffs. Even the Ravenclaws had sided with Cedric. However, they were nowhere near as brazen as the Hufflepuffs and the Slytherins, who could hardly be outdone in terms of contempt anyway.
No matter where they went, Harry was booed and insulted from all sides. Serena and Hermione always tried to be by his side, muttering to him in turn: "Don't worry about it, let them talk". But unfortunately this didn't seem to help much.
The icing on the cake, however, was Malfoy and Snape at the end of the week in Potions.
The Slytherins were already waiting outside the dungeons when Serena, Harry and Hermione came down the stairs from lunch and could almost sense the impending disaster. They were all wearing a large pin on their cloaks that looked dangerously similar to Hermione's S.P.E.W. pins. Serena thought at first that they were making fun of her, but the inscription, shining in red illuminated letters through the dim light in the dungeon, read:
Support CEDRIC DIGGORY - the real Hogwarts Champion!
"You like it, Potter?" snarled Malfoy, promptly catching cackling laughter from the surrounding Slytherins. "And that's not all, look!" He pressed a finger on the plaque and immediately the bright red letters were replaced by poison green ones:
POTTER STINKS
The rest of the Slytherins promptly did the same, causing a toxic green wave of bright light to illuminate the dark corridor.
"Don't tell me you came up with this all by yourselves," Serena said dryly, trying to drag Harry, who was blushing red with anger, over to the Gryffindors, who were thankfully happy that one of the champions was from their house. At least all of them except Ron.
But Malfoy had stood in their way and was grinning victoriously. Serena held her wand in his face. "If you don't get out of the way, Malfoy, I think your father is going to get some rather unpleasant news this afternoon."
Some bystanders were already pressing themselves against the dungeon walls, fleeing, but Malfoy seemed sure of himself. „Are you jealous, Black? Don't worry, there's enough for everyone," he sneered and held out a pin to her. "Granger can have one too, but just don't touch my hand, I don't want it to get slimed."
