"We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided."

It had not taken long for Hagrid to find Serena and Hall in the forest after the two men had disappeared. That same evening, Mr Crouch's body had also been found near the two students. However, with no clues as to who might have done it. At that moment, Serena could have cursed herself for not sneaking a peek. But anyway, the Ministry would not have taken the word of a fifteen-year-old. So officially the case remained unsolved.

"There are only two possibilities," Hermione put in expertly and rubbed her forehead as they sat together in the common room the very next day. "Either one of the men really did attack Hall, or he gave himself the shock spell to distract himself."

Serena sighed and shook her head, for the last theory made little sense to her. "Then why did Krum say he was attacked? Apparently he saw it with his own eyes, after all."

"Okay... and how about my theory," Ron interjected. "Krum attacked Hall and sent the men after Crouch."

"Why would Viktor want Damien Hall to attack his own brother?" retorted Hermione venomously. It didn't seem to suit her very well that the redhead was still picking on her ball companion. However, Serena also found this idea rather far-fetched.

"Maybe it wasn't Damien Hall," she muttered, still remembering the moment when Edmund Hall had looked her in the eye with a serious expression after the incident and affirmed that it hadn't been his brother. "After all, it could have been anyone..."

After all, the man in the forest hadn't had to mean Edmund by brother at all. Perhaps it had had nothing to do with him?

Then there was an awkward silence in the group, which only the crackling fire in the fireplace dared to break. None of them could figure out what had happened the previous evening or had any idea who might have been hanging around in the forest with them.

"Oh well, that won't get us anywhere now," Harry groaned, running a hand through his pitch black hair. "If Snape hadn't stopped me outside Dumbledore's office, we might have got there in time..."

"Shhht!" made Hermione suddenly, pointing in the direction of the dormitories, from where footsteps were clearly approaching.

"This is blackmail, I tell you, it can get us into a lot of trouble."

"We've tried the nice way long enough, it's about time we play hardball. I'm sure he wouldn't like it if the Ministry of Magic found out what he'd done."
