𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐈𝐑𝐄𝐃 𝐃𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑 turned down the familiar block where The Abattoir stood. Deena leaned against the window watching the buildings and people pass by. Her breath fogging up the glass, and the fast motion made her nauseous. She swallowed down the churn.

"I'm a terrible, terrible person." She muttered, still groggy and lightheaded. "I kissed someone else on the same night I planned on confessing my feelings for another. And even that didn't work out because..." She didn't dare to continue. She couldn't.

Aunt Freya was fixing her hair in her handheld mirror as Deena's tongue tasted the last of her drink and frowned. Nothing came out. "If you aren't with either parties, why does it matter again?"

"Because it does! You-you wouldn't understand."

"I do understand, but you're a beautiful young woman who clearly has options. It won't be long until those options are hit with reality and distracted by even more options. Some better than you." Her mirror shut with a loud snap and reached over for her half-empty glass in the holder, lipstick stained along the rim. "You're eighteen, darling. You can have a bit of fun. There's no need searching for a husband when you have all the access in the world to do without them."

"It's...complicated." Deena said.

Aunt Freya sighed a heavy breath, rolling her eyes. "Your generation will be the death of me. You can change the era, but certainly not the mindset. If you like them both, why choose? If you like one more than the other, then you have your answer. If you don't like them, move on. Don't make it any more complicated than it needs to be. You'll always have options unless you deliberately push them away on whatever notion."

Deena's eyes bulged, head whipping so fast in her direction she'd gotten dizzy. It shouldn't be a surprise her aunt would suggest being with both Erik and Roma, but it was. She had never been in a relationship like that and their personalities wouldn't mix. Neither would they agree. And if they did — wait, why was she even considering the idea? She liked Erik. Roma was more-so an attraction, a little crush that anyone could have...and kissing her was fun. And unlike with Erik, there's no complicated, possibly magic-made, link binding them together because the world said so. Or her ancestors.
