𝐀 𝐁𝐀𝐃 𝐅𝐄𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐑𝐑𝐄𝐃 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐈𝐃𝐃𝐋𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐏𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 for another last-minute trip, except it wasn't just Deena leaving but her parents due to her father's enemies striking yet again. She would've given her mother a mouthful if she hadn't looked at the situation differently — a family summer vacation. The first of many.

The last vacation — aside from last year's events that didn't count — was a school trip over the weekend that was still in France. Even spontaneous trips with her mother were always held within the country. A proper vacation with her parents felt too real to be true, almost normal.

But normal was good.

Perfect.

Deena tried to ignore the feeling seeking control over her emotions and continued packing, but worry sunk deep and her pulse picked up with stress. She gripped at her chest with a groan, her fingers failing to dig it out. It had no correlation to her current mood, but was a connection to Erik. Like his emotions were hers. An extension to the bond they shared.

He didn't pick up any of her calls or answered her messages.

That led Deena to think the worst had happened to her boyfriend. He could be in trouble and was reaching out for help. Or worse — they could've found out about him and his importance and were holding him hostage until she came to them. Until she gave them what they felt entitled to, her blood.

Moments blurred and she didn't put much thought into anything as she grabbed the keys off her dresser and ran outside. The black steel luxurious car gifted by her Uncle was parked at the curb where it was last seen, the thick brand new smell evident to its minimal usage.

Sat behind the wheel, it finally occurred that Deena had no idea how to drive aside from starting the car. A quick search to a YouTube video to explain the functions weren't as helpful with Erik's emotions blocking all reason of thought. He practically consumed her as though she stood within his skin.

A dark shadow appeared at the window, scaring Deena until they bent and Kol's face fogged up the glass. Her recently revived Uncle. "Hope you're not running away from the initial runaway plan. Then you certainly are a child of Nik's, no doubt about it." In his hand was a blood bag, freshly opened, with the tube between his lips and blood on his tongue.
