Maya wakes up to the sound of laughter outside. She gets up and peeks through the window. She sees Noel and JR laughing along with Aljun. Confused, she quickly fixes her hair and walks out of the beach house.

"Baby! Good morning." Noel quickly hugs her and kisses her on the cheek. "Sorry wala na lang ka namo gipukaw kay murag lami imohang tulog."

"SORRY, WE DIDN'T WAKE YOU UP. WE DIDN'T WANT TO DISTURB YOU."

Maya half-heartedly smiles.

Aljun hugs her awkwardly. "Hi."

"Hi," she says, with a fake smile.

"Rich kid man diay ni imong uyab, Maya," Aljun says.

"DIDN'T KNOW YOUR BOYFRIEND WAS A RICH KID, MAYA."

Noel looks at Maya, his arm around her shoulder. "Dili uy. Buang. Sa ako gani ning angkol no." He notices Maya's frustration. "Ana man siya nga sa nga mao daw ni iyahang pinaskuhan sa ako. Ingnong lang daw nako siya ug mag stay ko diri."

"NO, I'M NOT, DUMBASS. I TOLD THIS WAS MY UNCLE'S."

"IT'S HIS CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR ME. HE TOLD ME TO LET HIM KNOW IF I'M STAYING HERE."

"Dili gyud, rich kid gyud ka gyud."

"NOPE. YOU'RE A RICH BITCH. JUST ADMIT IT."

Noel laughs and flips him the bird. "Gago¹."

JR notices the uneasiness between the two. "Erm," he adjusts his throat. "Maya, nikaon naka?" He looks at Noel, trying to non-verbally ask him what happened.

"HAVE YOU HAD BREAKFAST YET, MAYA?"

He shrugs.

She shakes her head.

"Tara. Nagluto ko didto ug breakfast." JR walks ahead of her towards the house. He stops by the door, waiting for her to come with him.

"LET'S GO INSIDE. I ALREADY MADE BREAKFAST."

Her and JR walk back inside the house. On their way inside, she can hear Aljun laughing at Noel.

"Naunsa na pud to imong uyab huy."

"WHAT'S UP WITH YOUR GIRLFRIEND AGAIN?"

"Ambot. Nikalit raman to siya."

"I DON'T KNOW."

"Basig gisapot lang guro."

"MAYBE SHE JUST WOKE UP ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE BED."

Noel exhales. "Basi."

"MAYBE."

Maya closes the screen door behind her.

JR excitedly unveils the food he cooked. "Okay lang ka mukaog bulad² ug itlog?" He goes and grabs a plate and some utensils.

She nods.

"Okay, kaon na."

"ARE YOU FINE WITH EATING BULAD AND EGG?"

"OKAY, EAT UP."

1: GAGO (Read as Gah-go) is an expression that is casually used but depending on the person, it's still considered a curse word. It has many different meanings such as "fool" or "silly". It also can be used to emphasize anger. It doesn't have a direct English translation. In this specific context, is used in jest.

2: BULAD (Read as Boo-Lad) or Daing or Tuyo in Tagalog are dried fish from the Philippines. Bulad in Binisaya also means "to dry in the sun". They are usually split open, gutted and then dried underneath the sun after being salted. The process was developed by our ancestors as a way to prolong the fish meat's shelf-life.
