Chapter 48: Battle

Mephiles POV:

That girl was gullible to test my limits. I stalked the two buffoons from behind a tree, they seemed to be arguing. I wasn't surprised. They were set up for failure the minute they decided to work together.

I decided their bantering was no longer amusing to me and made myself visible from the shadows. They jumped at the site of me, but quickly got into attack position. I would've smiled at the adorable sight. They thought they were going to get their revenge.

"Where is Y/N?!" The blue one, Sonic yelled. His voice was considerably annoying.

"She has joined forces with me, you irritating fool. Do you really think you can stop me?"

They both grunted at this, making this conversation much more laughable. It was entertaining to get on their nerves. Both of them were emotional wrecks when it came to saving others.

"Why would she ever go to you willingly? It's obvious you have her hostage. Stop stalling and fight us!"

So, Shadow was in denial. Hilarious. It was going to be even more fun to tear him to shreds when he realizes his lover no longer loves him.

"I would like nothing more than to watch you both suffer. Let us fight." Without another word, I teleported behind the both of them and kicked them to the ground. Neither prepared for my attack. This was going to be superb.

"The only one that will be suffering is you!" Sonic cried, Before pathetically attempting to harm me. He failed as I teleported out of his reach and he nearly flopped to the ground.

"Shadow! Did you bring the chaos emeralds?" My eyes enlarged with peak interest at his words. They were idiots to carry those in my presence. Even worse, to mention them.

Shadow didn't say anything and tossed the blue one a jewel emerald. Adrenaline flowed through me in delight. The last of the chaos emeralds were going to be mine. I would have all of the power in the world.

"Try stopping me now, copycat!" Sonic teased, somehow in a more playful mood than before. I didn't understand that. He was still going to lose. Those chaos emeralds were going to change nothing for him.

Suddenly, I found the wind being knocked out of me. I was slammed against a rock as Sonic had curled up into a ball at the speed of light, and power slammed me with all of his strength.

How did I not see that coming?

"Not so cocky now, huh Mephiles?" He flicked his nose and wiped his shoulders off, carrying a large smirk on his face. I felt enraged at the sight. How dare he become so confident after one blow? Doesn't he know the power I hold?

"Shadow, use it now!"

Confused, I stared at Shadow and tried to get a read off the hedgehog. He wasn't showing any signs of attacking me. But he did have a chaos emerald in hand. That was a opposing threat to me.

"CHAOS CONTROL!"

I found the environment around me was warped. There were waves of red and purple, flashes of black, and a dizzy sensation taking over me as a black figure walked up to me.

"Where is Y/N?" He demanded.

"You'll never know." I began to laugh hysterically. Their mission was to find Y/N. If they failed at that, they failed their mission. Defeating me meant nothing to them. I just had to keep my location of her a secret.

"WHERE IS SHE?!" Shadow began to slash at me, beating me down. I couldn't do much because of how uncontrollably dizzy I was. It made me extremely vengeful, but it was just going to be on the list of things I would do to him later. When I was even stronger.

"Mephiles! Tell me, dammit! I'll put you back in that damn amulet!"

I snapped my neck at that, remembering how stiff and uncomfortable it was to have my soul residing in there. But he could be bluffing, I assured myself he had no possible way to do such things to me. I knew I had at least that much power.

"You think I'm lying? Then why am I carrying it?!" As if it were some sort of nightmare of mine, the annoying Shadow, pulled out the amulet he trapped me in a while back for so many years. I instantly backed away at the sight, my weakness being revealed. I was stuck. Both of my options were ultimate losses.

"You could've joined forces with me..." I tried, this being my last resort. I hated the being in front of me, but I didn't want to face my doom.

"Where is she?"

Refusing to look at my look-a-like, I showed him, with my powers, where I had been with Y/N. He snapped the two of us out of the allusion and told Sonic about her whereabouts.

By the time he turned back to face me, I was already gone. Heading to Y/N before they do. I couldn't risk her mind being changed about me.

Shadow POV:

"He got away!" Sonic yelled, waving his hands around in distress. I furrowed my brows, aware on what his plan was.

"We need to go. Now."

I grabbed his arm and chaos controlled us, hoping it would take us to her location. Sonic didn't have room to speak because I had already teleported us.

We arrived in a forest, surrounded by many trees. And Sonic and I began to call out and search for Y/N. The woods were huge but I wasn't able to teleport exactly to her, since I didn't know the exact place where she was. Damn Mephiles.

He had definitely beaten us at this point. He had teleportation as well, and he knew where she was. I stopped my search and started listening for any clues of conversation or footsteps instead.

In the distance, I heard something.
