LONGEST TITLE FOR A CHAPTER AWARD GOES TO ME LMAO

"Mom? Dad asked me to get the big boxes down from the basement, but they're really heavy and he just left to take the trailer load over to the new house. Could you help me please?" Your twelve year old daughter asks you from the doorway.

You stand up from where you were sitting on the bathroom floor, loading up a cardboard box with toiletries from under the sink.

"Sure," You say as you cross the room.

Your husband, Daniel, and your two kids, had all sat down about four months ago and decided it was time to relocate. Now moving day was officially here, and the house was closer to Daniel's office, and across the street from the middle school your kids would be going to.

"What's even in those boxes anyways?" Your daughter asks you as she opens the door to the basement.

"Oh," You say, "Just some crap from high school that I kept."

She shrugs and steps down the stairs into the sunken room, walking over to the big box against the wall.

"I'll get one side and you get the other?" She utters.

"Okay," You say, stepping down the stairs and leaning down to the bottom of the box.

"One, two, three!" You lift with your legs and groan at the surprising weight, shuffling over towards the stairs.

"Careful," You warn.

"Mom, this is really heavy," Your daughter says, her voice shaky.

"Be careful, seriously, you can do it," You say, stepping up one step.

"Mom!"

Suddenly it starts slipping really fast and she steps back, screaming quietly as the box lands on the floor with a loud thud, all of its contents spilling across the floor.

She bites her lip and her eyes soften when she looks up at you.

"I'm really sorry, I -"

"It's not your fault, we just need to pick this up," You say.

You crouch down on the floor and so does she, and the two of you start grabbing handfuls of papers and yearbooks and books and photos - carefully setting them all back in the box.

"What's that?" She asks, pointing to a long, crisp envelope that your eyes laid upon at probably the same time.

"I don't know," You say as you wrap your fingers around it, turning it over and looking for some kind of label that could tell you what it was.

"Could be a letter from a secret admirer," She jokes.

"I didn't have any secret admirers," You roll your eyes.

"Oh please," She scoffs, "Look at you."

She reaches into the box and pulls out a photograph of you with some of your friends in the hallway of your high school, taken by one of the teachers on the last day.

You see yourself from twenty years before, long, wavy hair and big eyes, shiny white teeth and tan skin. You can admit that you didn't look terrible in that picture, but it was probably the best picture taken of you, ever, so it wasn't a good one to judge for a first impression.

"You really don't look that different, Mom." She says admiringly.

"Aren't you sweet," You say with a teasing smile.

"I'm serious!"

Suddenly the door opens, and you both turn to see who it is.

"Hey, Dad," Your daughter calls, standing up from her spot on the floor.

"Hey, sweetie. Could you give me a hand with the trailer door? I can't get it down." Daniel says, looking over you.

"Sure."

Your daughter steps around the rest of the mess and runs up the stairs, disappearing behind Daniel.

He looks down at you, confused about the papers and books all over the floor.

"Oh, there was an incident with - the box - it fell -"

"I get it, Y/N," He laughs. "Do you need help?"

"No, I'll finish up down here and meet you guys up there."

"Okay," He says, shutting the door behind him.

You turn back to the mess on the floor, narrowing your eyes on the lone envelope.

You carefully pick it up, staring at it curiously as you rip the seal, pulling out the folded piece of yellowing notebook paper.

You freeze when you see the very top. Written in small, black ink were the words,

Dear Y/N,

It's Shawn..
