The strong gust seemed to blow harder from where you stood, elevated above the murky water. You gripped the edge of the railing, casting your gaze across the entire marsh, which was deep brown and muddy, but the sun reflected off the little water that was there, and you had to squint against its bright glow.

Cars whizzed by the road behind you in preoccupied haste, no one even noticing you standing here, no one minding.

You weren't thinking about anything for the longest time.

You were at war with yourself, in your head. You had been bottling up every emotion you had for so long, you had never spoken out loud how you truly felt to anyone. There were occasionally times that you would call out for help in less obvious ways, but be ignored by anyone who had heard.

This had to be done.

No one will even care that I'm gone, you'd thought. They'll be too busy with their own lives.

Horrific memories of past events continued to haunt you daily, and keep you awake when night fell. You felt as though you were right below the surface, struggling for air, and yet they were the ones weighing you down.

You forced yourself not to think about those right now. You had a more important task.

You squeeze your eyes shut, taking a deep, shaky breath that causes your eyes to sting. You don't even think twice before throwing one leg over the railing.

You held on tight to the metal rod, hot from the sun's rays with no clouds blocking its view, as your whole body was now on the other side, standing on the edge of the concrete ledge.

You hesitantly glance down, past your feet, at the marsh, at least 300 feet below you. It would be quite a fall.

Your breathing was uneven, as if only one lung was working. Your head was almost as dark and murky as the polluted bits of water beneath you.

You lift your head to the sky and shut your eyes again, hands still outstretched beside you, holding loosely to the rail.

There was barely enough standing room. If one foot were to move forward slightly, you were gone.

You couldn't hear anything but a high pitched beep that started at the pit of your stomach and worked it's way up. You felt sick.

This is it, you thought, before taking one last deep breath.

"Don't you dare," you hear loudly from behind you, just as two strong arms lock around your waist, preventing you to go anywhere.

A stranger, with a surprisingly strong grip, who had come out of nowhere. You looked over your shoulder, trying to see his face.

You saw he had abandoned his car on the side of the road and ran to you instead.

It didn't occur to you until then how many tears were brimming in your eyes, because after one blink they began to stream down your face like a river, and you couldn't stop them from coming.

"Let go of me right now," you manage to demand him, your voice not even sounding like your voice. It was deep, throaty, escaped before a sob choked you.

"Absolutely not," he annunciates every word, his voice even stronger and deeper, much more believable than your weak croak that followed.

"Please," you sob, "get away from me."

You struggle to pull his arms off of you, leaning so far forward that you could almost be at eye level with your toes.

But he just pulled you even tighter to him, his powerful arms all the way around your body. He groans softly, fighting you.

You couldn't stop crying. You grapple for breath in between whimpers, your eyes burning from the tears.

It was then that you hear yet another voice as he comes running, announcing, "I'm coming!" before he was right up against you, and his arms wrapped around you just as tight.

"I couldn't hold her much longer," the voice of the first guy whispers softly.

You kept fighting them, kept screaming at them to let you go. You slapped their arms in frustration, clawed at them with your fingernails, pulled them as hard as you could, but your strength was no match for theirs.

"Don't move!" you hear another voice say as he approaches, this one climbing over the railing swiftly and holding you against it at your chest, using all of his body weight to keep you from jumping.

All three of them held you so tight that it was impossible to leap, impossible to move. With your head and heart pounding, you finally give up the fight, taking a shallow breath before shutting your eyes and falling limp against them.

It was then that you felt your body being lifted over the railing, the three of them working together to get you to the other side.

Between the noise of backed up traffic and sirens, you somehow managed to hear the voice of the first guy as he whispered into your ear, "I've got you."

You didn't speak. You were so weak and your body was exhausted as you lay unmoving on the side walk.

One of them felt your pulse in your wrist, another with his fingers to the side of your neck.

"She's alive," you hear one of them announce, "she's breathing."

As the sirens grew deafeningly loud and approached the scene, you pressed your lips together, opening your eyes to see him hovering over you, his deep brown eyes locked on yours, your vision blurry as you squint against the sun.

His chestnut brown hair fell over his forehead, hands on your shoulders, his breathing just as shaky as yours.

"I've got you," you hear him say again, nodding slowly. "I've got you and I'm not letting go."

You do not have to go through with suicide. There is always someone who cares and will not let you make that decision.
