It was not a night like any other. Every Christmas since William and Kate married they had always spent Christmas Eve at Sandringham, but this time they celebrated at the Middleton family home. After the row between The King and his firstborn, they decided not to have the usual family dinner. Victoria was quite disappointed about that, she loved being with her maternal grandparents, but it hurt her deeply not to be with the other part of her family.
The princess was playing with Louis and her cousin Arthur when her aunt came into the room, —It's time for dinner— she announced with a smile, causing the younger children to run off, leaving the two of them alone —How are things going?— Pippa asked worriedly. They hadn't spoken since the festival. —I don't know— she shrugged as she sighed, she couldn't say that things had improved. Her mother and she barely spoke —You know you can call me whenever you want— said the woman hugging her niece by the shoulders —I know, thank you— answered Victoria without wanting to talk about it, escaping from her aunt's arms to go to the dining room.
Pippa was taken aback by the teenager's attitude. A lump formed in her throat as she thought she was angry with her for some reason. Deciding to ask her later, she went to the dining room and took a seat next to her husband, James at the large wooden table that was adorned with Christmas decorations where all the Middletons were seated. She looked over at Victoria who was sitting next to her brothers, grimacing. —All right, sis?— Kate asked, noticing her distraction. Pippa got up and led her into an empty room. —Is Victoria angry with me?— she questioned directly, intrigue killing her. The Duchess shrugged, —I hardly ever speak to her— she clarified with a shrug as she sighed heavily.
Arthur's mother never took her eyes off her niece, waiting for her to be the one to speak. She could see how his blue eyes didn't sparkle as before and his smile was shallow. The thought that it was his fault was drowning her in bad thoughts so as soon as they finished dinner he sat down next to her. —Are you mad at me?— she asked, afraid that the answer would be yes. Victoria looked at her in confusion, she hadn't expected that question —Angry? Why would I be?— she answered truthfully making Pippa breathe a sigh of relief and before she could say anything the princess continued —It just hurts me not to spend Christmas Eve at Sandringham— she confessed sighing. She hated feeling that way as she should be grateful to have a family to share it with, but she couldn't help but think of the years before. —Oh, I'm sorry, darling— the woman said, giving her a little hug. The two began to chat quietly making the princess forget her worries and feel at peace for a few minutes.
Catherine watched the scene and wished she could have that relationship with her daughter. She approached them with a smile —What are you two talking about?— she asked earning a dirty look from her first born as she rolled her eyes. She was having a good time with her aunt and thought her mother was going to ruin it —Just about school— the teenager replied with a slight shrug. Kate ignored Victoria's evil look and wrapped her arms around her neck as she stood behind her and kissed her on the forehead, making the princess feel really bad for treating her that way —You can join in if you want— she said with a smile. Victoria snuggled into her mother's arms as she sat down next to them. Kate began to stroke her hair remembering when she was a baby and held her in her arms on that same sofa...

Victoria was going to be four months old in a few days and was cuddled in her mother's arms as she caressed her soft face causing a tear to come from her eye. She hated being in that situation. She lived at her parents' house as their house in Chelsea was always surrounded by journalists. Every newspaper in the world was talking about her and her daughter, calling her a fortune hunter. Every time she looked at the baby she couldn't stop those thoughts coming to her mind.
She was also thinking about her relationship with William, who still hadn't asked her to marry him, which caused her to start crying harder —What if he doesn't want to marry me?— she asked herself over and over again, losing herself in the thought until she realised that Victoria was awake and mumbling some sounds. Her blue eyes looked into hers with concern, as if she knew something was wrong. She rested her little hands on her mother's eyes, trying to wipe away her tears.
That act melted Kate's heart, which caused her to start kissing him all over his face. She loved her daughter, but she couldn't help thinking that everything would have been better if she hadn't been born. —I'm so sorry baby— she murmured, hating herself for thinking that way. The woman brushed away her tears and began to play with her firstborn, making her laugh. Seeing Victoria's laughter made her laugh too. And so they spent the whole afternoon.
The prince came home from work making Victoria very excited. She had always been a daddy's girl. The baby stretched out her little arms towards her father, who understood the message and cuddled her in his arms while giving her a kiss on her forehead —Have you missed me Kika?— he said with a smile —Hi love— he greeted his girlfriend with a small kiss on the lips —When I'm gone I don't miss me so much— Kate said making a pout as the little girl snuggled into William's neck —If I had such a cool daddy I would miss him too— he said arrogantly making them both let out a laugh —You're so full of yourself.
Kate looked at her little family and could feel a surge of emotions wash over her. Watching William play with the baby made her think that everything was fine, but then she thought of the marriage and broke down. The Queen had made it very clear: if they didn't marry, Victoria would have no titles. Which made the whole Middleton family very anxious. The whole country was falling all over them because they thought they were opportunists and the press was putting out a thousand false stories about the family, so he felt very guilty. She shook her head from side to side trying to get those thoughts out of her head to focus on her family. But when night fell, she locked herself in the bathroom to cry. Everything was too big for her.
