On Friday after school, the girl went home to get ready for the Christmas concert her mother was organising. Unlike last year, she was very excited to go. She had seen how hard it had been for her to organise it and wanted to go to support her and her father and siblings.
—Do you need help?— the brunette walked into her firstborn's room when she saw her sitting in front of her dressing table.
—No need— the teenager gave her a small smile.
—I'm going now. I'll see you there— she kissed her on the cheek. It made her very happy that her daughter was going to the concert, because of all the problems they'd had this past year.
When she finished getting ready she went to the hall where everyone was already there, and when they saw her they got up and went to the courtyard where the driver was already waiting for them.
On the way Victoria stared out of the window, the Christmas lights hanging all over the city and the decorated houses made her feel at peace. The sight of people enjoying a stroll through the city, shopping for Christmas Day, made her smile. She wished she could be one of those people, but she knew it was impossible, so she was content to just watch.
When she reached the abbey, her little blue eyes lit up at how beautifully it was decorated. She had always been very apprehensive about going in there, but at that moment all she was looking forward to was going in.
Catherine greeted them with a big smile and gave them a brief summary of the gala. As they reached the seats, the teenager noticed that the sign with her name on it was next to her mother's, which made her look at it with surprise as she thought they had made a mistake.
—I wanted to sit next to you— she said, leaving her daughter surprised.
Due to protocol, the heirs to the crown had to sit together, but this time they decided to skip it.
During the concert they shared complicit glances and some small conversations, which the cameras captured. After Victoria's escapade, much had been said about her relationship with her parents. So those photos were calming people down and suggested that all was well in the family.
-I loved it, Mum- she gave her a little smile as they left the abbey.
On the drive back to Windsor, they each talked about what they enjoyed most about the concert. Victoria spent most of the time looking out of the window, though, not because she wasn't interested in the conversation. She simply liked to imagine fictional scenarios in her head, which was more interesting.
Her parents could sense her concerns and after everyone had gone to bed they talked about their firstborn's desire for freedom.
—I think we should let her out— Catherine said.
Neither of them wanted her to run away again like last time, preferring her to go by her own rules.
The next morning, when Victoria went to breakfast, the adults gave each other a knowing look to start the conversation.
—Hey Vic— William caught her eye, which caused the brunette's body to tense up as she thought he was going to give her a little lecture on her previous events.
—We thought you might like to go out on the town for a walk— the brunette was taken aback as she hadn't expected that.
—All of us?—she asked with confusion.
—We thought you might want to go on your own— William said, causing his firstborn's eyes to sparkle and she nodded her head.
Knowing that she could go alone for a stroll through the centre of the capital made her very excited. As much as she loved spending time with her family, having time alone was incredible.
