Ever since Victoria had written that letter to her uncle and got no reply, she hadn't wanted to hear from him again, or at least that's what her head made her believe. But deep down she was deeply hurt by everything that was happening.
She knew that her grandfather was also doing everything he could to get back into the same relationship with his son. Every time he was in London, he invited him to have tea with him, but the red-haired man always ended up declining the invitation.
There was a small void in Victoria's heart that she needed to fill. She desperately wanted to talk to her uncle, but she knew that neither her grandfather nor her father would allow it. The damage he had done to her was beyond repair, but she wanted to know why. Over the years he had given many explanations, some more plausible than others, and Victoria wanted to know the truth, or at least guess at it.
One Saturday morning, Victoria woke up to find her father's office open and her father could be heard talking to the monarch. It was nothing out of the ordinary, so she was going to ignore it and walk past, but when she heard the word 'Harry' she stopped in her tracks.
—I'm not meeting him, I have nothing to talk about— William replied firmly.
Since the redhead married Meghan, things had changed a lot between the brothers. And when he moved out of the country, the relationship had been null and void.
At that moment Victoria saw that this was an incredible opportunity, so she interrupted in the prince's office, who looked up in confusion.
—I'm coming— said the brunette, leaving her father astonished.
—Hey dad, I'll talk to you later. The kids are calling— William said quickly before hanging up the phone.
—I want to go to the meeting, I need to talk to him— Victoria answered before he could say anything.
—Kika, this is grown-up stuff. You shouldn't be involved in this— William sighed.
The adults had tried to keep their children out of the fights with Harry, but it was inevitable to keep that from the teenager.
—He's my uncle and I want to talk to him— she replied sternly.
William knew she wasn't going to change her mind, so he had to nod. He didn't want his daughter to get involved in such matters, but seeing her care and how concerned she was for the family's future confirmed what a good queen she would be.
Victoria spent the days quite nervous, which she found strange, as only a few years ago she would never have been that way about seeing her favourite uncle. She thought about what she wanted to say to him and all the things that could go wrong, she wanted to be prepared for anything.
Charles also wanted to talk to his youngest son, so one Monday after school a car came to pick her up to take her to Clarence House. Unlike what she thought, she wasn't nervous at all, just angry at having to go through that with him.
When she arrived, the monarch was already waiting for her with a small smile on his face. Seeing her there made her feel very proud of her. Even though Victoria felt she had let her family down, and deep down, she thought that by doing things befitting a queen, she could regain the trust she had never lost.
The man invited her to tea while Harry arrived. They began to talk about how they were organised for Christmas, but the teenager couldn't help but stare at the white door in front of her, waiting for her name to be announced at some point.
She didn't have to wait long for the duke to arrive. He looked exactly as she remembered him, which made her eyes water, but she managed to hide it well.
