Novalee was walking home after eating ice cream with Randy, Randy wanted to walk her home, but he had to get to work, novalee had told him that she could walk home,

He was hesitant, but after much reassurance from novalee, he let her walk home alone. As he went to work,

As novalee was walking home, she heard a small whine, making her stop, and look around,

She didn't see anything, as she was about to continue walking, she heard another whine, curious and concerned, she listened closely to the whine, following the sound,

It led her to a sewer. She knelt down to her knees and looked inside, seeing a wet, broken box, but nothing seemed off about it,

The whine sounded again, and novalee noticed that it came from the box, laying on her stomach, she scoot close to the sewer, her good arm, stretched out, her fingers Barely touched the box,

She scooted closer, letting out a small grunt, before she grabbed the box, pulling it closer to her,

Her eyes widened as she looked inside the box, tears clouded her vision, before she shook her head, carefully pulling the box out, and getting on her knees, looking down at the box,

"You poor things," she whispered. Inside the box were three small pugs, wet, shaking, frightened,

"Don't worry, I'll get you warm and dry, and I promise you that you don't have to be scared, okay? I won't hurt you, and I won't let anyone hurt you, okay?" She told them, grabbing the box in her arms, before standing up with them

"My name is novalee. My house isn't far from here. It's only a couple of blocks, I have to warn you, I have a really fat cat, his name is Louis, but he's totally harmless, you'll like him, and he'll like you, I promise," she told them, as she walked home,

Novalee soon made it home, noticing that nobody was home,

"Okay, first, let's get you guys cleaned up, then warmed up, okay?" Novalee said, carefully walking up the stairs. Fat Louis wasn't far behind,

Novalee entered her room and went straight to her bathroom, turning on the hot and cold water ,getting a bath ready for the pugs,

She had gently put the box down and went to grab some extra towels before entering into the bathroom, turning off the water,

"Okay, I can do this, I can do this right, fat Louis, we can do this," novalee said, with a small nod

"One by one," she mumbled to herself before carefully picking up one of the pugs,

It was a little hard cleaning the pugs with just one hand and drying them while keeping them in place, but novalee did it.

She cleaned them up the best she could and dried them before, taking them out of the bathroom and placing them on her bed, wrapping a blanket on them, keeping them warm,

"Okay, you guys must be hungry, I don't have anything beside cat food, Mm." Novalee said,

"Wait! I got it! Sorry, Tatum, she's my friend. She said that today her brother dewey, who is also my friend, has a day off, I can call him and see if he can pick up some dog food...puppy food? Yeah, puppy food, you guys are definitely puppies," novalee ranted to herself as she dialed the rileys number,

She only had to wait a couple of seconds before the phone was picked up, "hello?"

It was dewey, novalee smiled , "hi dewey, it's me novalee, are you busy right now?"

"Uh, no, I'm not. Do you need anything?"Dewey asked, concern in his voice

"Well, I don't need anything, but the puppies I found need some food, and I can't Extacly go to the pet store right now, so I was wondering if you could go to the pet store and buy some puppy food? I'll pay you back. " novalee told him,

"You...found puppies? Okay, I'll stop by the pet store and buy some puppy food, I'll be there in a couple of minutes," dewey replied

"Okay! Thanks, dewey, see you in a few,"

Dewey had arrived a couple of minutes later, with a small bag of puppy food, along with some bowls,

"Thank you so much, dewey," novalee said, quickly hugging him before going to the feed. The pugs, who quickly started eating,

"So,where Extacly did you find them?" Dewey questioned, "in a box in a sewer on my way home," novalee replied

"You didn't hurt yourself, did you?" Dewey asked, and novalee shook her head,

"I'm fine, I'm more worried about them,"she said,

Dewey nodded ,"did you name them yet?"

"Well, I was thinking about Sir willam for this one, little stuart for this one, and Sir Randell ,they remind me of Billy, stu and randy," novalee said , with a small smile, and Dewey chuckled ,

"The pugs are pretty cute,"
