SONG OF THE CHAPTER: When it's cold I'd like to die - Moby

-quite a big, time skip since the last chapter!!!-

All the Avengers had to go on this mission. It was major. Apparently, for over a decade, there has been a base that was training people to be Hydra, using all sorts of techniques.

Everyone was suited up on the quinjet awaiting this big mission.

When they were originally told about the mission, Wanda's and Y/n's hearts dropped. She shared glances as the crew left the conference room. Both understood the anxieties they were feeling.

Natasha knew. She knew how the girls would feel about the mission but she also knew not to say anything. It was better to get this over and done with.

Going into the battle, the team had set out a strong plan as they knew this would be a difficult fight.

Once they had made it to the location, Tony, Y/n, and Wanda entered the base whilst the others tried to fight off the guards.

Upon entering, they seemed to notice how abandoned the inside was. Barely any guards were inside and were mainly trying to make it outside.

"We have to find the cells where they keep the people," Y/n spoke to the other two, hoping to find the captured people.

Finally, the three Avengers found a block of cells. However, to their dismay, none of the subjects seemed to be alive, it was like a bloodbath in each cell.

Wanda gasped at the horrific sight. Tony was disturbed and Y/n was quickly piecing the information together.

"Hang on. We need to go now!" She shouted at the other two, running back to where they had come from.

"Y/n?" Tony questioned running with them.

"It's a trap. They killed off all potential soldiers and ordered all guards outside to try and beat us. I have a terrible feeling that we might be in too deep."

"It's a trap?" Wanda asked finally starting to understand.

"Y/n can you feel how many people are outside?"

She paused.

"Shit!" That was all she said.

Tony and Wanda both knew this wasn't a good sign.

When they got out they could see the team struggling slightly.

"Did you find the soldiers?" Cap asked over the coms whilst fighting off multiple Hydra agents.

Tony had flown up, trying to take out the snipers and shooters around with Rhodey and Sam.

"They've all been killed. This was their plan. It's a trap."

"Shit, what are we going to do? We can't run." Nat said.

"We fight," Y/n spoke with venom dripping from her voice.

Taking out her sword, she sliced body after body, brutally killing Hydra's army, but the soldiers never seemed to never end.

Wanda had managed to take out a large amount of the army with her powers but it was taking up a lot of her energy.

Jumping off soldiers left and right, Y/n flipped around trying to kill as many as possible.

"We have to retreat, we'll never make it out alive," Sam spoke, tired.

"Give it a few more minutes, if it gets worse then we'll leave," Steve commanded.

After 10 minutes the team saw no improvement and knew they had to leave.

Hydra knew this and took their chance.

Suddenly, all agents started to attack Y/n. Whilst she could manage a few she was struggling.

The agents on the exterior of the group fought off the rest of the Avengers. Hydra still had a large advantage over the Avengers, their weapons being more powerful since the short invasion of Sokovia.

"Y/n!" Nat shouted, trying to run over. The panic was clearly visible in her face but she didn't bother to hide it. Her only thought was Y/n.

"Nat! You can't you'll get killed!" Steve shouted running over to stop her.

"She is going to get killed! We have to help her!" Nat shouted back trying to lose Steve.

One of the bunkers around has managed to shoot Tony down, Rhodey soon rushing after him. Nat got shot in the back of her leg, Wanda collapsed after using all her energy, and Sam soon came to her rescue. The other Avengers suffered a couple of slightly less severe injuries.

However, a gap had been formed in the crowd around Y/n, showing her being beaten. She was limp but still looked like she was trying to fight.

Until an agent knocked her out.

Nat let out a blood-curdling scream that could practically shake the ground and tried to break free of Steve's grip.

She cried and screamed. Her body was numb and nothing else mattered.

"Y/n! You sick bastards let go of her! Get away! I'm going to kill you all!" She cried.

Although it was proving to be a struggle to stand up because of the bullet wound in her leg, she was still persistent to run after the brunette.

Clint came over to help Steve to hold her back.

No one on the team had seen her cry and here she was having a full meltdown. The team was too badly beaten to try to rescue Y/n and she had already been dragged away before they could get to her.

Eventually, Nat fell to her knees, crying into Clint's shoulder.

"We...we can't leave her. They'll torture her or even... kill her." Nat sobbed.

"We'll find her. We'll save her and make sure she's alright and we'll look after her. We'll do it as soon as possible, but for now, we have to save you, Nat. You've lost a lot of blood."

"I can't go... I can't leave her," she whispered. Clint could feel her shaking.

"She's strong, Nat. She'll manage. We'll find her."

Clint nodded at Steve who picked her up to take her to the jet.

She continued to cry into his chest.

The flight back to the compound was deathly silent. The only thing that could be heard was Natasha's quiet sniffs from the corner, as she wiped her eyes, still shaking.

Clint sat with her with his hand placed on her knee, trying to comfort her in any way he could.
