3rd Person POV:

Wendy stood in the cemetery, dressed in a black dress with a black bow in her hair, standing next to Mike's family. It was Will's funeral today. Well, would it be considered a fake funeral? Because Will is alive, but no one else knows that.

"Wait till we tell Will that Jennifer Hayes was crying at his funeral," Dustin snickered but was quickly shushed by Mrs. Wheeler.

"Okay, but who are we burying if it isn't Will?" Wendy couldn't help but ask Lucas in a whisper but was pinched on the back of her arm by Steve.

Wendy glared at her brother from over her shoulder but he gave her a look and gestured to the Byers.

'Oh right,' Wendy thought to herself. 'Will's family doesn't know he's alive..' Well, Joyce knows Will is alive, and Jonathan has suspicions, but Wendy doesn't know that yet.

Wendy let the boys talk with Mr. Clarke about a hypothetical Gateway to the Upside Down while at the Byers' household. Instead, she ate a small dice size cube of cheese, well, eating most of the cheese cubes because it's her favorite kind of cheese.

"Wendy, hey," Wendy looked up to see Joyce approaching her. "I just wanted to check up on you and see how you are doing."

"I should be doing that for you, Ms. Byers," Wendy said. She held up a cheese cube. "Cheese cube?"

"No, thank you, honey," Joyce couldn't help but smile at the girl. Wendy and Will got along well and she remembers always catching Will talking to Wendy over the walkie-talkie past his bedtime.

"I, uh, I thought the service was nice," Wendy said awkwardly. To Wendy, Joyce thinks her son is dead and Wendy knows he's alive. She's not good at lying!

"Oh, I'm glad you think so," Joyce said.

Wendy ate another cheese cube. Wendy decided to try and bring down the awkwardness and temporarily get over her hatred of touch, to try and bring comfort to the grieving mother.

"Can I hug you?" Wendy asked for permission.

"Oh, of course, sweetheart," Joyce accepted Wendy's hug.

Wendy gave Joyce a hug, it was a bit stiff on Wendy's end, but it was the best Wendy could do at the moment.

To Joyce, she thought Wendy was grieving the loss of her friend and doesn't know how to process it like others. It was rare that Wendy used physical touch, only if it was aggressive and felt the other person deserved it, so, to Joyce, Wendy was really grieving.

"Your choice of cheese is also very nice too," Wendy said in Joyce's arm.

Joyce snorted at that, hugging Wendy a little bit tighter.

"I'm serious, Gouda cheese is the best!" Wendy insisted as she broke the hug.

"Oh, Wendy," Joyce chuckled, gently fixing Wendy's bangs, the girl scrunching her nose slightly at the action. "Never change, yeah?"

Wendy blinked in thought at that.

"...change in personality or appearance..?"

"Okay, so, Mr. Clarke says that if the Gate has a strong enough magnetic pull, it should point the compasses to it," Dustin said, handing each of the party members a compass.

"Must be a pretty big Gate.." Wendy mumbled, already noticing the compass needle pointing to the false North.

"Come on, let's find the gate before it gets too dark," Mike said, putting on a backpack.
