Mr. Decker was writing down the math problems on the board. I was so tired that I could barely stay awake.
"Now, could anyone tell me why this specific expression is important?"
No one raised their hand.
"Anybody", he asked.
I looked around and everyone was on their phones and not paying attention..
"Ok then, Ryan give me an answer."
The guy that spotted me the other day raised his eyebrow.
"Umm, I don't know Mr. Decker", he replied.
"Just give me something."
"Ok then."
He sat up tall.
"An algebraic expression is important because it teaches us about different ways to solves problems", he continued.
Mr. Decker nodded his head.
"Very good."
I smiled and looked at his friends.
"Looks like I'm getting an A", he whispered.
"Nice."
He must have caught me looking at him because he sighed and focused on his phone.
"Some girls just don't get it", he said.
"That makes two of us", I replied.
He looked at me.
"What's your problem?"
"I don't have a problem with you", I said.
He scoffed and shook his head.
Mr. Decker handed out our homework for the night.
"Please complete this worksheet and we will go over it tomorrow."
As soon as the bell rung, Ryan and his friends quickly exited the classroom. It was clear that I had gotten under his skin. But, I don't see why because he had a problem with me first. I packed up my things and heading in the hallway. I took the steps to get to my next class. In the corner I could see Ryan and his friends. They were talking with Roman.
"Dude, I don't trust her", Ryan said.
"She's cool", Roman replied.
I walked over to them.
"Why am I such a problem to you?", I asked.
Ryan turned around and rolled his eyes.
"You again?"
"Yeah."
Roman touched his shoulder.
"Chill man."
He looked at me and smiled.
"Hey."
"Hey", I replied.
"Zara right?"
"Yeah."
He nodded and looked over at his friends.
"You guys don't have to worry about her", he said.
"And why not?", Ryan asked.
"Because, she already knows."
His friends gasped.
"She knows we're beasts?!", Ryan said.
"Yeah."
Ryan hands balled into fists.
"This can't be happening."
"Well, it is", I replied.
Before he could say anything Roman reminded him of who he was. He calmed down and took a breath.
"How did she find out?", he asked.
"I saved her and I wasn't in my human form."
"Alright."
He walked up to me and looked me up and down.
"You can't say a word about us or what you saw", he told me.
"I won't."
"If you do-"
"I said I won't", I replied.
He looked and Roman and nodded.
"This would bother me a lot more, but we got bigger problems", he said.
"What are you talking about?", asked Roman.
"Claire and her crew."
"The Axe?"
"Yeah, turns out they're looking for Madama too", he replied.
Roman looked at me.
"Well then, we move out to search the area. "
"But, they could be anywhere", one of his friends said.
"Right, which is why we have to move", Ryan replied.
I looked in my book bag and grabbed my page of notes.
"This might be useful."
"What is that?", Roman asked
"Some notes I took on Madama and the Native Tribe."
He took the piece of paper and smiled.
"Thank you."
"No problem, I just wish there was more I could do", I replied.
He touched my shoulder.
"You've done more than enough."
He motioned for his friends to follow him.
"We don't have much time. I'll contact Dax and let him know what the move is."
They left and I was all alone in the hallway. Even though he said I've done more than enough, I still feel like there's more I could do. I feel like I can be of use just a little longer. I looked around to make sure no one was watching me and I followed them. I knew my Dad would kill me if he knew what I was doing. But sometimes, you have to take that chance, and that's exactly what I'm going to do.
