"Zara, all I'm saying is that I don't think it's safe for you to spend the night at the hut", my dad said.
"But, it's not like we're doing anything."
"You know, I wanna believe that, but I just don't trust that Roman guy", he replied.
I sighed.
"Do you trust any guy I'm with?"
"Yeah, I trust Luke", he replied.
Of course he would say he trusted Luke. I've know him for like eight years, but we weren't talking anymore.
"What is it going to take for me to change your mind?", I asked.
"Nothing."
"But-"
"Zara, do not argue with me."
He picked up his things and left the kitchen.
God I was so mad. And I couldn't talk to anyone about it. I mean, Isabelle was even mad at me. In the middle of my thoughts the doorbell rang. My dad quickly answered the door to find Roman standing there with a bouquet of flowers.
"I'm guessing you're here to see my daughter", my dad said.
"Yes sir."
He moved aside.
"C'mon in."
"Hey Roman."
"Hey Zara, I got you these."
He handed me the flowers.
"Thank you."
"You're welcome", he replied.
My dad rolled his eyes and headed up the stairs.
"So, no leads yet?", I asked.
"No, not yet."
"Oh."
"Yeah, but we need you to stop by the hut later tonight. We're meeting Caesar, and he's not coming alone", he replied.
"Yeah, sure."
I looked up the stairs to make sure my Dad wasn't watching us.
"We should...you know?"
"What?", he asked.
I moved in closer and kissed him. His lips were so soft and he held me like I was a princess. As we shared a deep embrace, I heard my dad coming down the stairs.
We quickly broke our hold.
"Yeah, I'm not dumb", my dad said.
Me and Roman looked at each other and laughed.
"What a party pooper", I joked.
"Yeah."
I could see Roman's face turn serious.
"What's wrong?"
"Zara, I still don't think you should go in with us for battle", he replied.
"Stop saying that. You know I'm going to be there for you."
He looked ahead.
"I don't want to put you at risk."
"You're not, I told you I'm choosing to do this", I replied.
My Dad walked back in.
"So umm, are you going to leave, because I have to go to work and you're kinda blocking my way."
Roman nodded.
"Yes sir."
He kissed me on the cheek and went outside to move his car.
"Do you have to be so rude?", I asked.
"I wasn't rude, I just asking him to move. There's a difference."
I rolled my eyes and went upstairs. Whether my dad knew it or not, I was going to the hut tonight. I needed to be there for Roman just like he's been there for me in the past. I figured I could get him by telling him that I'm going out to get late night dinner. Or maybe just another tactic.
