Chapter 12

Sawyer didn't get much sleep after his nightmare, and the fact that Daryl's snoring was so loud it made it unbearable.He had decided to make everyone breakfast to distract his thoughts. The boy wondered if Andrea had any nightmares about her sister, so Sawyer made a mental note to ask her.

One by one, everyone joined in the dining area. T-dog was the first to show up and help him pass the food.

Sawyer gave Rick a small smile as he passed him a plate of powdered eggs. It wasn’t the best, but Sawyer made it work with what he got.

“Are you hungover? “ Carl asked his father. “Mom said you’d be. “ the boy added.

“Your mom’s right. “ replied Rick as he sat down next to his family.

Sawyer grabbed his own plate as he patted Glenn on the shoulder while Jacqi made sure he was alright. He couldn’t help but chuckle lightly at his friend’s hangover. Soon everyone’s attention turned to Shane when T-dog pointed out a scratch on his neck.

“Must have done it in my sleep.“ replied Shane, something in his voice made it hard to believe.

“Never seen you do anything like that before. “Replied Rick, worried for his friend.

“No, it’s nothing like me at all. “ Shane agreed .Sawyer noticed some tension between him and Lori. Something that made Sawyer have an unsteady feeling. But he knew it was none of his business.

Doc soon joined them, and right away, Dale had questions for him. “ Doc, I don’t mean to slam you with questions first thing-” started Dale

“But you will anyway. “ finished the doctor.

“We didn’t come here for the eggs. “ stated Andrea.

It wasn’t long until Sawyer followed everyone back into the main panel room.  Hopefully, I will get the answers they were all seeking.

“Give me playback of TS-19. “ Doc told Vi.

Everybody watched the screen as a picture of a person appeared on it, though it was a very digital picture. “Very few people got to see this. '' claimed the doctor as everyone gathered around.

“ Is that a brain? “ Carl asked.
“ An extraordinary one. '' Doc answered him.

“Not that it matters in the end. “

Jenner began to show them all inside the brain and explain what the brain was all about.

“ That’s what this is a vigil? “ asked Rick.

“ Yes. “ answered Jenner. “Or rather the playback of the vigil. “

“This person died? “ Andrea asked. “Who? “

“ Test subject 19. Someone who was bitten and infected and volunteered to have us record the process. “ Jenner explained.

They all watched as Vi showed them how the infected person died.

“Is that what happened to Jim?” Sophia asked her mother, who nodded her head yes.

Sawyer watched as Andrea couldn’t help but started to sniffle a bit.He walked over to her and put his arms around her. “ She lost someone two days ago. Her sister. “ said Lori.

“ I lost someone too. I know how devastating it is. “ Jenner said, Sawyer looked to see some sympathy in his eyes. He listened as Jenner explained how rapidly a person could die after being bitten.

“But they’re not alive. “ said Rick.

“ You tell me. “Replied Jenner as he continued to explain. Suddenly, the brain exploded as if the person was being shot at.
