For example, when he is with Leo to help protect Charlie, he's fairly stoic and holds a disregard for just about everyone aside from his allies. In the marines, he was nothing but cold, crass and did whatever it took in order to stay alive. He was obedient in the sense of following orders. However, the night of the purge, he is very much so like his brother: protecting those he cares about at any cost. Outside of his government persona, Brooks is a pretty laid back guy. Though, after Brooks graduated highschool, he enlisted in the marines right away. For a number of years, he was in the marines. He wound up coming home for few occasions, especially when the purge was instituted. Shortly after the purge was instituted, that was when Brooks left the military to be home with his brother, especially since that was around the time that Leo lost his son in the purge. Years later, at the time, that was when Leo became the chief of security in protecting senator Charlie Roan. Leo got Brooks a job as lieutenant commander in helping to protect the senator.
