You clicked your tongue in annoyance, how bothersome. You had tried everything to take your mind off her, yet it was to no avail. Every little thing reminded you of her, the bright, roaring flames that licked the bottom of a cooking pot reminded you of her determined and gorgeous irises. A small child running past reminded you of her admirable agility. And any small act of kindness from a stranger reminds you of her kind attitude towards anyone.

Amber. She was the one that lingered within the depth of your mind, never departing. The thought of her arouses a warm, fuzzy feeling in your chest and travels to your cheeks to bring out a light, pretty pink. She was just so sweet; her bubbly personality was pleasant, her smile was contagious, and her determination was something to admire. What was there not to like about her?

You kicked a small pebble on the path you walked upon as you sighed longingly. Your breath hitched at the sound of hurried footsteps in your direction ahead. But you were met with a familiar sight.

'And there she is,' Your lips curved into a smile at the sight of Amber who returned her smile with her own.

"[Name]!" Amber waved vigoursly as she rushed to your side. "I haven't seen you in so long!"

The smile you held was now more strained at the mention of your absence. You had tried to avoid her, to settle your feelings but of course, they had only gotten stronger.

"I have been quite busy," You had decided to say, shrugging.

"Oh! You could have asked me for help! I can always make time for you."

Your heart fluttered. You knew her words were only out of pure kindness but you couldn't help but wear a flustered smile as blood rushed to your cheeks. You glanced up at the sky as you walked alongside with her. It was now or never. Even if she didn't share the same feelings as you, you both would remain friends. Right? But for how long could you go for without informing her of your feelings?

"Hello, Tevyat to [Name]?" She waved a hand in front of your face. "You looked troubled, what's wrong?"

Could she be anymore adorable? The concerned look on her face clenched your heart.

You took a deep breath, halting your steps. Turning around, you looked at her straight in the eye. Mustering the courage to speak, your hands clamped into fists as you resisted the sweet urge to squeeze your eyes shut and run away.

"I like you."

She only smiled effulgently at you, as radiant as the blazing sun. "I like you too!"

You paused, swiping a hand down your face, not being able to stop the chuckles emitting from you. Her denseness was frustratingly adorable as well.

"No-Like, as in, romantically."

You observed as her smile dissolved into an awkward 'o' with her cheeks painted a light pink.

"Oh."

You gave her a strained smile. You were expecting this, you knew this would happen. Yet it hurt like you never saw it coming, like an axe thrown by a Mitachurl.

Your heart pounded achingly in your rib-cage as you took a trembling breath.

"It's okay." Your voice was softer than a whisper, to avoid the cracks that would've torn your normal voice.

You gave her a slight nod as she stood there. Still confused, you guessed. You didn't look at her face to see, afraid of what expression she would've worn.

Turning on your heel, you walked away. Every step felt heavy with regret. You could've ruined your entire friendship with her. Archons know if she would ever even talk to you again, or even send a glance at your way.

A tightly wrapped hand encased your wrist, and you came to an abrupt stop.
"Wait!" Amber huffed and you looked back at her.

"I'm sorry, I didn't expect you to say anything like that, you know? So, I was really, er, surprised." She rambled, her eyes looking everywhere that wasn't yours. "I like you too." She breathed out.

This time, she finally looked at you in the eye. Nervousness seeping into her features as she held onto your wrist tightly.

You looked at her, wide eyed. "Really?"

Your voice was so tiny, so unsure that it shook Amber's heart.

"Yes." She smiled at you, still nervous yet a genuine happy one.

You couldn't help but let out a breath of relief as you quickly wrapped your arms around her. "Oh my Archons, I can't believe this."

She laughed, hugging you back just as tightly.

"May I take you out to dinner?" She asked, beaming from ear to ear when she pulled back. "I'll pick you up!"

You smiled and nodded. "I'll be waiting then."
