Aaron's POV (Edited)

"Will this work?"

I asked Christian as he sat infront of me. He's sipping from his coffee, his usual no nonsense expression etched onto his face. He shrugged nonchantly before speaking

"Yeah, I guess it'll work."

An annoyed breath left my lips.

"Yeah, thanks for your reassurance."

He chuckled and it only expanded my growing annoyance at him. Christian tapped the table before speaking again

"Well, I never thought I would see a day where the great Aaron Atkinson would fuss over a simple thing as a birthday."

I couldn't help but mock

"I'll ask you the day when you'll fall in love."

Christian snorted before replying confidently

"Then you should accept your loss. Because that day would never come."

A wide smirk plastered onto my face. Every other men say the same thing before someone would come in their lives and mess up their living in the best way possible. And the best part is he won't even realize it.

So, I chose not to comment on him. Actions speak louder than words. He'll understand it himself when he'll experience the same feeling one day hopefully. Christian then checked his phone before standing up.

He buttoned up his coat and placed his phone in his pants pocket.

"I have a meeting in an hour. Call me if you need my help."

"As if your ideas will help me."

I muttered smiling like honey at him. He rolled his eyes and walked towards the door.

"Hey, can you please invite Alana too. I don't have her number. Anastasia will love if she comes."

I didn't fail to notice that how taut Christian went at the mention of Alana. But maybe it was just my illusion. Christian is as hard as a rock. And Alana is just an associate, right?

He only hummed in response before exiting the door. His behavior was weird and totally not like him. But I don't have time to dwell on his behavior. I have bigger fish to fry today. Let's just hope, everything go smoothly and as I hope today.

"Is it ok?"

I asked Sarah. I thought no-one would be appropriate other than Sarah. She's Ana's best of the best friend. She knew Anastasia like the back of her hand. Sarah will surely help me the best in this surprise.

"Yeah, chill out."

Sarah spoke while filing her nails. She was dressed in a simple black jeans with a turtle neck knitted top. Her hairs were tied in a low ponytail. Her face void of any expression. Sometimes I wonder if she even smiles. I never saw her smiling unless she was with Ana. She's the perfect example of a grumpy hard working woman.

"You know her more than anyone. Tell me, should I do something more."

I couldn't help but ask for assurance once again. It was the first birthday of Ana with me after a long time. I want everything to be perfect. I can't possibly mess it all up. I want to make this birthday special for her. I want her to remember this day forever.

Well, she will if everything goes well.

I can't even believe myself. I never and I mean never fuss over trivial things like planning a birthday party. I planned various same parties for Maura. But I don't know why I'm panicking now. Is it because of my fear of not giving Ana the world best surprise or is it my own emotions not taking ahold of themselves?
