Chapter 23: Elder Jerome's daughter

Author's POV

"Who is that rude woman?" Emerald asked

"She's Elder Jerome's daughter, and a spoilt brat for sure." Ellen answered looking outside the window of the car.

"I don't like her at all, she's just too much l wonder how her parents deals with her." Emerald said

"She's obsessed with Ethan so beware of her, her father even tried to convince Ethan to marry her since he didn't find his mate but unfortunately for him Ethan refused coz he knew that Elder Jerome was trying to use him and his power because of the marriage alliance.

That old man always tries to use ways just to get the throne, he hired rogue vampires to endanger the people so that he could blame the king for not taking care of his duties but again his plan failed miserably coz before he even had time to accuse, the problem was already dealt with." Ellen narrated it Emerald.

"Oh so that's why Ethan threatened them the first day l came here" Emerald finally realised why that happened that day when she arrived here.

[Elder Jerome's house]

"Dad!" Veronica shouted as soon as she stepped inside the house.

"What is it?" Jerome asked walking in the living room where his daughter was shouting.

"Dad, why didn't you tell me?" Veronica said as she started to whimper like a baby.

"Tell you what?" Jerome confused asked.

"That..t..hat Ethan has....a... fiancee" she said between her sobs. Jerome walked to her and wiped her tears.

"Don't cry, l didn't tell because l was thinking of a way to destroy her before you find out and l have already found a way."

Veronica looked up when she heard what her father just said.

"What! How!" She exclaimed both happy and shocked. Jerome just gave her an evil grin before explaining his evil deeds.

"We have a new ally who is the most powerful, we made a deal. He will help me destroy Emerald and in return I'll help him destroy nature." Jerome said

"What kind of deal is that, l mean destroy nature, who is he?" Veronica said

"I haven't met him personally but just his messenger, Michael. He wants the world to be filled with darkness and I agree with that because we're also creatures of the darkness." Jerome said sitting down.

"So how will he help?" Veronica asked

"We will see that soon but one thing l must tell you, you're not getting married to Ethan because he is the main threat here and an obstacle in my way to become the King.

You don't have to become his wife just for a higher position coz am certain that when I become King, you'll have a higher position." Jerome said, he knew clearly well that her daughter's obsession with Ethan wasn't about love but status and rank.

"But dad!"

"Enough!, no buts and that's final." Jerome said and she immediately shut up, she definitely knows what happens when she pushes the buttons so kept quiet and changed the subject.

"Why not kill Ethan first instead of killing someone who is not even worth a threat?" Veronica suggested but Jerome shook his head disagreeing with what she said.

"She's not that simple as she looks. I heard that she's Mother nature's daughter and the one l made a deal with has grudges with mother nature herself so he wants to destroy everything she created."

"What! Mother nature's daughter? No way that can be true. Who told you that?" Veronica said shocked

"The walls have ears and l saw what she did in the garden the previous day." Jerome

"But how? This is impossible!" Veronica said still not believing what she just heard.

"Everything is possible so that's why we need to eliminate the first threat before it's too late." Jerome said and stood up ready to leave but Veronica stopped him.

"Dad, there is something I did today which is going to lead me in trouble" Veronica said looking at the floor coz she couldn't face he's anger after saying this.

"What did you do?" Jerome asked

"Umm.....umm...l...l bumped into Ethan's fiancee and insulted her and tried to slap her twice but Ellen saw me doing so she threatened to tell Ethan." Veronica finally said after stuttering.

"You What!!?"

"I thought she was a commoner"

"Why are so stupid? You could have just apologized and left but now you've stirred up trouble for yourself. I am not going to help with, face your own punishment tomorrow yourself." Jerome said boiling with anger.

"But da......" Veronica wanted to say but Jerome raised his hand for her to stop and walked out of the room.

Veronica went back to her sobbing again. She was now afraid of what tomorrow brings.

[Back in the kingdom]

Ellen had already told Ethan about the Veronica issue. The following day there was a meeting and Veronica's presence was needed.

Ethan sat on his throne looking mighty and fierce as usual when there are meetings. The elders were sitting on their respective positions and Veronica was standing in the middle of the room kneeling.

"I called you all here to witness the punishment of Veronica, Elder Jerome's daughter because of the insult and assault to the future queen.  When l arrived back here with her, l clearly warned you to stay away from her but l guess some of you turned deaf. She  was supposed to be sentenced to death but Emerald forgave her. Although she was forgiven, it doesn't mean that she'll get away after disobeying my orders. She will be whipped 100 times and a week without blood." Ethan said and the room was filled with gasps.

"Please forgive me your highness" Veronica pleaded with tears in eyes but Ethan turned a blind eye.

"Guards! Take her to the dungeons immediately." Ethan said and the Elders all stopped talking. The guards came in and held her but she started protesting

"One more move and you're dead." Ethan said his eyes red showing how angry he is. She stopped struggling and went with guards without causing trouble again.

"Dismissed" Ethan said and the Elders hurriedly left coz they knew who to mess and not to.

Everyone knows how Ethan is when something dear is damaged or in trouble. He is so angry that it took every ounce of self control in him not to rip Veronica's head off but because he made a promise to Emerald not to kill her.

Sighing he went to the dungeons to make sure she isn't creating a ruckus there.

"Good morning your highness" The guard at the dungeon greeted him. He just nodded and continued to walking until he reached Veronica's dungeon.

The guards were preparing to whip her, they tied her hands in the air with chains. The maids had already changed her clothes to a white plain dress which has thin fabric so that the pain is registered to the bones straight.
