Matt

"You're angry with me," Vanessa stated, frowning at me from the other side of the screen.

"No," I lied, focusing on writing my English essay.

"Yes, you are," she insisted. "You've been short with me all evening."

Sighing, I sat back in my desk chair and dragged my hands down my jaw. "Alright, I am," I confessed. "I've been doing some thinking, and I don't appreciate how you handled the whole situation with Addison."

She lifted a brow. "Oh? Do you care to elaborate on that one?"

I tossed my pen onto my notebook, preparing for the battle that was about to take place. But what exactly was I defending?

"You're not being fair to me," I continued. "You know that other than you, Addison is my only friend. She's all I've got, V when you're not here. You can't isolate me by demanding that I don't speak to her anymore."

She stroked her chin as she studied me and I took a deep breath, averting her stare, pressing on. "Addison and I have never done anything that should you give reason to feel insecure about our friendship. I'll admit that the massage may seem a bit questionable but if you had been there, you would feel differently."

She shook her head. "I don't trust her."

My mouth dropped open as my gaze flew to her face on the computer screen. "She's your friend. How can you possibly mean that?"

She tossed her hair over her shoulder, looking indignant. "She's a flirt, Matt. Plain and simple. Friend or not, I know for a fact that she views you as attractive. I love her. I really do but she can't help herself when she's around a sexy man."

She held up one palm. "I know you might not understand it now, but you will."

I shook my head in disbelief. "Alright, so let's say that is the case and she does think I'm hot and wants to make-out or whatever." I waved my hand. "Do you trust me to tell her, no?"

Glancing away, Vanessa slowly shook her head.

I scoffed, completely floored by her revelation. "Wow. You truly have that little faith in me, huh?"

She shrugged. "You're there. I'm here. You could easily do anything behind my back, and I would never know it."

I steepled my fingers as I pressed them against my mouth, choosing my next words carefully. I had to be tactful if I wanted to secure the win without completely slaying the enemy or my relationship.

"I'm your boyfriend," I began. "But that doesn't give you the right to control me. And I don't agree with your stance on this topic at all."

She narrowed her eyes. "So, what are you saying? Are you asking me to reconsider you being able to see Addison or are you telling me that's what is going to happen?"

I jutted out my chin as I looked directly at her. "I'm telling you. There's a Halloween party tonight and I want to go to it. I've been working and studying nonstop, and I want to blow off some steam with a friend."

Vanessa nodded. "Fine, Matt," she said, her tone frosted with ice. "Do whatever you want but just know, that I'm going to do the same."

"What's that supposed to mean?" I leaned in close to the computer screen, but she wouldn't look at me.

"Nothing. I have to go," she mumbled, right before the image of her cut to black.

Addison promptly burst into laughter the moment she flung open the door to her house and saw me standing there.
