"MICHAEL!"
"Y/N!"
Flames danced into the night sky as they both ran in opposite directions, circling the structure in desperation.
Her breath came in ragged gasps with legs that felt like lead, but she couldn't drop to the floor. She couldn't stop until she touch him.
As she rounded the corner, their eyes locked.
"Micha!" Y/n's voice broke as she called out to him, tears streaming down her sweat streaked face. Relief and disbelief washed over her in a wave. "I thought you were dead?! Where's everyone?"
Michael collapsed in her grasp , his body shaking from exhaustion. His blue eyes, usually so bright at the sight of her, were clouded with tears of his own.
He prepared to answer by taking a deep breath, "I was with Noa and Ness... but the others, they were taken." He paused, his hands trembling as he ran them through his sweat drenched hair.
"A big truck pulled in. Black figures... they came and took your mother away. They took the others too, I saw them take Yoichi."
Y/n's heart twisted in a chilling manner. These black figures, Rin mentioned something about them as well. She looked at him, then at the building that was shaped into a chaotic form. Now it was collapsing in on itself with flames devouring everything. The structure groaned ash raining down like snowfall as the fire grew taller and fiercer.
She exhaled shakily. "Can we leave the place like this?"
Michael's gaze drifted to the fire. He didn't know what to answer with.
"I don't know."
Then, the distant sound of police sirens cut through the crackling of the flames. They both turned, watching as the flashing lights appeared on the horizon growing closer by the second. The unmistakable hum of helicopters echoed above them. Firetrucks too were rounding the area. Y/n's eyes widened in confusion as she glanced at Michael.
"You called the police?" Michael asked, his voice strained.
Y/n frowned, her brow furrowing. "No... I was going to, but I never got the chance." Her confusion deepened as the flashing lights surrounded them. More vehicles than she had expected were all pouring in like they were about to storm a battlefield.
The helicopters circled too, their spotlights sweeping across the burning wreckage and the two of them standing there.
Michael's eyes grew sour as a chilling realization crept in. "This doesn't feel right," he muttered.
