The early morning air was still, the faint hum of city life muted by the penthouse's height. Y/n lay on the couch, staring at the ceiling. Her head throbbed relentlessly, the kind of pounding that no amount of shifting or lying still could soothe.
She squeezed her eyes shut hoping the darkness behind her lids might offer relief, but the pain persisted.
Finally, with a frustrated sigh she sat up and ran her hands through her tangled hair. The room was silent except for her soft breathing. She couldn't stay still. She needed to do something, anything to take her mind off the wreck that had become her life.
Standing on unsteady feet, Y/n wandered into the spare bathroom. She turned on the shower, letting the water heat up as steam began to fill the room.
Slowly, she stripped off her clothes and stepped in the hot water cascading over her skin. She scrubbed at the grime as if trying to wash away not just the dirt , but the guilt the fear and the helplessness that clung to her like a second skin.
As the water poured over her, she let her mind wander. Where was Michael? Was he even alive? What about Rin? What would he find? Her chest tightened at the thought of either of them being lost forever.
Maybe Sae was right.....
She clenched her fists against the tiled wall, forcing herself to push those thoughts aside. There was no time for despair, not when she still had the chance to do something.
After finishing her shower, Y/n dried off and pulled on the spare clothes that had been left for her, simple but comfortable. She padded back into the living room with her wet hair dripping slightly onto the carpet.
For a moment, she sat on the edge of the couch staring blankly at the city skyline outside the massive glass windows. The world seemed so peaceful from up here, a cruel illusion compared to the society she knew was brewing below.
She couldn't just sit there any longer. Something inside her pushed her to move, to act. Y/n stood up, searching the penthouse for supplies.
Quietly, so as not to wake Sae, she rummaged through the closets until she found a small flashlight and an empty bag shoved into the back of a shelf. Then she slipped the items into the bag, her movements hurried.
Next, she moved to the kitchen her bare feet silent on the cool floor. She opened a drawer and pulled out a sharp knife, testing its weight in her hand before wrapping it in a towel and tucking it into the bag. The thought of needing it made her stomach churn, but she couldn't afford to take chances.
