Noa sat at the lone metal table in the center of the room, his usually stoic features shadowed with exhaustion. His broad shoulders sagged slightly as their situation was evident in every line of his posture.
With a grim expression, he reached into his pocket pulling out his phone. The device seemed almost insignificant given the gravity of the news it held.
He swiped across the screen, his sharp eagle eyes narrowing as he selected something. Without a word, he turned the screen toward Y/n and Michael who sat across from him.
The headlines screamed at them each one more damning than the last.
Devils Among Us: Families of Victims Demanding Justice.
...
Families Rally for Execution of Suspected Mass Murderers.
Beneath the bold text were images of Y/n and Michael, their faces frozen and their eyes wide with shock while being shoved into police cars. The glare of the flashing red and blue lights against their stricken faces only amplified the sense of despair.
Noa's voice broke the silence, steady yet underscored with a sharp edge of frustration. "It's worse than I expected," he admitted, his thumb swiping to reveal videos,
The screen showed an enraged crowd filling the streets, their faces contorted with anger. Signs waved above their heads with slogans like "Death to the Devils!" and "Remove them from our streets!"
The chants were deafening, even through the small device their collective outrage was a visceral force.
Names were shouted of boys that caught Y/n's ear. Many of them from blue lock, their parents were demanding justice.
Noa placed the phone down on the table with a heavy thud, his hand lingering over it as though reluctant to release it. His jaw tightened as he glanced between Y/n and Michael.
"The Mikage family is particularly adamant about this," he said bitterly. "They've hired an army of lawyers, each more determined than the last to see you both on death row."
Y/n lowered her head. She thought of Reo. Even with their sparse interactions, she had seen him alive and breathing just a little less than a week ago. Now, he was....
Noa broke her thought and continued. "They're upset about their son and refuse to sleep until you've been hung. I've spent all morning trying to find someone, anyone to represent you. But..." He hesitated, his gaze dropping to the table, the silence stretching unbearably.
