The Winfred Estate's eastern grounds had been transformed. What was once a quiet garden was now a sprawling training arena, complete with elemental conduits, beast arenas, and magical resonance stones. At its centre stood Adonis, surrounded by swirling elemental runes and protective glyphs.
A low rumble echoed through the ground.
Her Basilisk slithered forward from the shadows, massive and intimidating, but bowed its head as she focused. Nearby, Felicity the Phoenix rested in a ring of fire, observing with unblinking, golden eyes.
Adonis extended her hand. Nature and destruction swirled in opposite streams around her arms. With a focused breath, she merged the two into a violet-green beam of mana—aimed at a cursed dummy imbued with dark magic. It dissolved into dust.
"Well done," came a cool, composed voice.
She turned to find Cassius Lancaster, his pale violet eyes watching her intently. He stood near the boundary line, arms crossed, Selkie companion at his feet—its silver pelt shining in the sunlight.
"You're improving faster than expected," he added.
"Is that a compliment?" Adonis teased, approaching him with a smirk.
Cassius shrugged. "An observation."
She stepped closer, catching a flicker of something in his expression—a hesitation, uncharacteristic for him.
"Cassius," she said quietly, "you've been watching every time I train. Is there something you're not saying?"
He didn't respond at first. Then, almost too softly: "You're changing. And I can't look away."
Her heart skipped.
Cassius turned before she could respond. "The Tower sent word. Prince Felix is arriving soon. He requested to observe magical beast bonding."
Of course, Prince Felix. Ever gracious, ever diplomatic. A charmer by nature.

"Lady Winfred," he said, taking her hand and placing a light kiss upon her knuckles. "The forest pales beside you."
She blinked, surprised, but smiled politely. "Flattery suits you, Your Highness."
"It's not flattery if it's true."
Cassius stood a few feet behind her, eyes narrowed, lips pressed into a flat line.
As the magical beast summoning began, Adonis stepped back to observe. One by one, the elite nobles began forming tentative connections.
Lucas extended a hand to a Thunderbird, which flared its wings and landed beside him with a piercing screech.
Winston, calm and composed, kneeled before a glowing Karkadaan, which bowed in silent acknowledgment.
Zavier watched from afar, hand resting on the hilt of his sword as Twin Dragons hovered high above, refusing to descend—but clearly watching him.
Felix, with graceful ease, commanded the waters, drawing his Kelpie to his side in a swirl of blue mist.
The bonds had begun.
Soon, the magic coursing through the clearing glowed like a tapestry of mana lines—each one weaving between master and beast.
Adonis stepped into the center. Her aura flared. She lifted her hand—and not one, but four beasts responded:
