Chapter 7

Your POV:

It had been a couple of days after the attack on Mrs. Norris  and Hermione, Ron, Harry, and I had just sat down for transfiguration. Today we were learning how to transform animals into goblets. Since Mione and I didn't have pets, Professor Mcgonagall allowed us to experiment on a couple toads.

"Mr. Weasley," Professor Mcgonagall said, "Why don't you give it a try?"

Ron looked down on his pet rat, Scabbers, counted to three, and said, "Vera Verto." Unfortunately, due to the fact that Ron's wand had been broken since the car crash, his goblet was furry and had a rat tail wiggling around.

"That wand needs fixing, Mr. Weasley." Professor Mcgonagall said. That's when Hermione and I raised our hands, "Yes, Ms. Granger?"

"Professor," I started.

"We were wondering if you could tell us-" Hermione said.

"About the Chamber of Secrets." We finished together.

McGonagall looked at us, "Very well. As you all know, Hogwarts was founded over a thousand years ago by the four greatest witches and wizards of the age. Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. Three of the founders coexisted quite harmoniously, one did not."

"Three guesses who." Ron whispered.

"Salazar Slytherin wished to be more selective about the students admitted into Hogwarts," the professor continued, "He believed magical learning should be kept within all magic families. In other words, purebloods. Unable to sway the others, he decided to leave the school. Now according to legend, Slytherin had built a hidden chamber in this castle know as the Chamber of Secrets. Shortly before departing, he sealed it until that time when his own true heir returned to the school. The heir alone would be able to open the chamber and unleash the horror and by so doing, rid the school of all those who, in Slytherin's view, were unworthy to study magic."

"Muggleborns" Hermione and I stuttered. I stole a quick glance at Malfoy, who was looking at me with a worried expression on his face.  

"Naturally," McGonagall continued, "the school had been searched many times no such chamber has been found."

"Professor," Hermione said, "what exactly does legend say lie within the chamber?"

"The chamber is said to be home to something that only the heir of Slytherin can control. It is said to be the home of a monster."

I cursed under my breath, which earned me a slap to the head by Hermione.

"Do you think it's true? Do you think there really is a Chamber of Secrets?" Ron asked.

"Yes." Hermione said.

"Couldn't you tell?" I asked.

"McGonagall's worried. All the teachers are." We finished together.

"But if there really is a Chamber of Secrets," Harry said, "and it really has been opened, then that means... "

"The heir of Slytherin has returned to Hogwarts." I said.

"The question is; who is it" Hermione asked.

"Let's think." Ron said, sarcastically, "Who do we know who thinks all muggleborns are scum"

"If you're talking about Malfoy-" I said.

"Of course!" Ron exclaimed, "You heard him. 'You'll be next mudbloods'."

"It's not him." I said, "He may not like muggleborns, but he would never petrify or kill them."

"How do you know?" Ron asked.

"I just...do."

"Fantastic." Ron rolled his eyes, "And while you keep on telling yourself that, we are going to try and find a way to know for sure."

"I think I might know something." Hermione said, "But we would be breaking at least a dozen school rules and it'll be dangerous."

"You guys aren't seriously thinking about doing this, are you?" I asked.

"It's the only way to know for sure, y/n." Harry said.

"You're either with us or against us." Ron said.

"Quite being over dramatic, Weasley." I smirked, "I'll help you, but I get to say 'I told you so' when we find out it's not Malfoy."

"Deal." Ron smiled, "Hermione, what do we have to do to find the truth?"
