LOUIS' POV
Ever since Seth's probation, more like suspension actually, I had to take him to work every time. Why? Well, one is that Meg and I might get called by social services for leaving a minor alone in the house. And second, he might set fire to our kitchen which also leads to the social services part.
And ever since his probation began, Meg and I haven't spoken. This time, I'm sure it's not my fault. She accused me of being indifferent about the situation and that pissed me off. She made it sound like I didn't care about our children at all!
For one week, I didn't call her and vice versa. Louise and Summer would in the middle of the night. I'd always catch them in the living room at midnight, talking to Meg. I guess it is different with mum, yeah?
"What do I get to do today?" Seth asks me as we enter the office. The other teachers look up as Seth enter the room.
I drop my keys on my desk and sat on my chair. "Read your book. You'll need it when you go back to school." I tell him sternly. He groans and takes out his textbook, flipping through the pages.
"This isn't fair." He mutters. I turn my gaze to him and see his bored face as he flipped the pages lazily, scanning the words lightly. "You know Louise has that bloke wrapped around her finger, right?"
Being with Seth for a week taught me not to listen to everything he says. Most them are lies. He's even a bigger gossiper than Catherine and Louise combined. "All right." I say indifferently.
"No, it's true. Blaine told me last night." He says calmly, spinning in his chair. "The guy's name is Aaron. Though I don't know what he sees in Louise." He shudders, flipping through pages casually.
"Well that kid's gonna get his arse whipped if he doesn't keep his hands to himself," I mutter. I hear Seth laugh. "And don't talk about your sister like that. She has... Admirable qualities." I say.
Seth laughs louder and scoffs. "Like being a know it all?"
I look up and see the smug little grin on his face. "It's called having a brain, Seth. Your sister is smart." I tell him firmly, "she's wise and opinionated. She doesn't let anyone step on her, not even you or Blaine."
"She's stubborn, dad. She's very stubborn." He says in a slightly pissed off tone.
True, Louise can be a little stubborn sometimes. She can also be vicious. She's one of those children with very strong opinions about stuff. Also, she rarely cares about what people says about her. If Blaine tells her there's a rumour going around about her in school, she brushes it off if she knows it's 100% false.
"But when you're stubborn, people will often think you're not gullible." I tell him. He opens his mouth to say something but closes it again when he realises I'm right.
Then he scoffs and chuckles nervously, "Wonder where she got that from." He mutters, casually flipping through his book again.
His statement rang in my head. Meg would never admit it but she and Louise are the same. First few times we see each other, she rarely wanted to engage in conversation with me and brushes me off. I bet she didn't even wanted to be friends the first time around. I can see that characteristic of Meg in Louise.
People might misunderstood them for being snobs but in reality, they're just trying to keep their distances from people. They're careful of who to trust because the less people you trust, the safer you are.
Right that moment, I suddenly felt lucky all over again. Lucky that Meg trusted me when she agreed to marry me. She could have trusted anyone but I'm glad she found that she could trust me as time went by.
