I Used To Always Be The Rejection

Chapter 26

Dedicated to anyone who's had an unrequited love.

When I last uploaded, some people had been asking for a little recap, so I'm going to summarize some of  the characters a bit.

Ashlynn: The main character, sister of Logan, mate of Xavier, lost her parents at 11 to rogues and hunters, got rejected at 14, now 16, now part of the Shadowlight pack

Xavier; Going to be Alpha of the Sunmoon pack, mate of Ashlynn, half brother of Shay, now 18

Nick: Alpha of the Shadowlight pack, mate of Michelle, dating Ashlynn, parents were killed by rogues & hunters when he was very young, now 20

Logan: Ashlynn's older brother, going to be Beta of Sunmoon pack, Xavier's best friend, has not found mate yet, now 18

Stacy: Ashlynn's ex-best friend, crush on Xavier, used to date Xavier but broke up after Ashlynn ran away from Sunmoon pack, now 16, part of Sunmoon pack

Shay: Ashlynn's best friend, ran away from Sunmoon pack after attack by rogues and hunters that killed her parents & Ashlynn's parents, sexually assaulted by someone, attacked by rogues & hunters causing her to be paralyzed from waist down, mate of Paul, now 16, now part of the Shadowlight pack

Paul: Beta of Sunmoon pack, mate of Shay, best friend of Nick, now 20

Derek: Ashlynn's good friend, didn't like Ashlynn when he first met her, sister is Delilah who's mate is a hunter named Ethan, Delilah followed Ethan and left the Shadowlight pack, now 15 almost 16, part of the Shadowlight pack

Natalie: Michelle's best friend, used to like & date Nick, mate of Rob who is part of Emeraldjade pack, now 20, part of the Shadowlight pack

Ella: Ashlynn's good friend from school, mate of Max, originally from Emeraldjade pack, but after Max broke his betrothal to Alpha's daughter, they were kicked out so they joined the Shadowlight pack

Bea: Ashlynn's first friend from school, human, died in a rogue/hunter attack

Jenny: Member of Shadowlight pack, looks like how Ashlynn imagined her little sister in the womb would look like, parents were taken by rogues & hunters, now around 5

Margaret: Member of Shadowlight pack, sort of like the "mom" of everyone, raised Nick

Olivia: new bitchy queen bee of the school, part of the Sunmoon pack, parents have a lot of money, has a crush on Xavier

Chapter 26

Ashlynn POV

I stared at the ceiling of the moving car, my feet propped up against the front, which probably wasn't the smartest thing to do, but I could care less right now.  "Thank you for offering to take me there," I said to Natalie.

Natalie smiled, though there was sad look in her eyes, "No problem.  In a way, you're sort of doing me a favor too.  There's... someone I haven't seen in a long time, and I would really like to see him again,"

I didn't say anything, but I could guess who Natalie was talking about.  Nick had told me about his history with Natalie and about Natalie's mate, Rob.  Natalie really was strong, and I admired her so much.  Even though she loved her mate, she chose the loyalty to her pack instead, because she knew it was the right thing to do.  It must have been hard for her, most likely the hardest thing she ever did, choosing between her mate and her pack.

I wish I could be like Natalie, willing to give up my mate for my pack.  I wish I could let Xavier go, but no matter how hard I cut and sawed, the string of destiny connecting us both just wouldn't be severed.
