Chapter 4:

Ashlynn POV

I scurried after Al-, I mean, Nick as he showed me around his pack and part of his territory.  And let me tell you, it wasn't big.  It was fricking HUGE.  Werewolves were everywhere, both in their human and wolf form, training and running around, laughing, chasing each other.  Children were crying, screaming, and poking each other, making the most adorable faces while the adults joked around with each other.  Everything was just so... Lively.  It really was a truly beautiful sight to see.  And true beauty was hard to find these days.

"Wow," I said for about the millionth time as he showed me the training ground which was a colossal flat barren field.  Many wolves were fighting there, growling with their hackles raised.  They were even in their human form training with little daggers and a few punches and kicks every now and then.  I even saw these little wolf cubs rolling around, playfully pawing at each other.

Nick grinned at me, "Pretty impressive, isn't it?"

"Above and beyond," I agreed, my voice awe filled.

"I'm glad you like it," Nick said, a pleased note in his voice.

"How could anyone not?" I asked, as I stared around at everyone with wide eyes.

Nick laughed, his laugh strong and full of joy, as if it came from deep within him, sending little shivers  down my back.  I frowned, I wasn't an expert on this kind of thing, but I do know that I wasn't supposed to be feeling this way.

I shook the feeling off and turned to Nick, smiling, only to see him frowning at me.  I frowned too, did I do something wrong?  A feeling of dread hit me.  Was he regretting letting me join his pack?  Oh no, please don't let him regret it.  Please.

I took a step closer to him, and then realized something.  Nick wasn't frowning at me, he was frowning at something past me.  I turned around just in time to see a very, very, VERY angry person stomping towards us, and I realized it was the guy with reddish brown hair.  If I thought he acted cold and hostile to me before, I was dead wrong.  The look on the guy's face could literally kill.  And by the way the look was directed at me, I was pretty sure that I was going to be the one getting killed.  What a nice way to start my first day in this pack.

On instinct, I took a shaky step backward, fear clutching my heart in a tight fist.  The guy stormed towards us, his arms violently shaking at his sides, telling me that he was trying to not let his wolf take over.

"What the hell?!" The guy shouted, his whole body was shaking with anger and his brown eyes were getting so dark they were almost black.  It was a horrifying sight to see.

Nick stepped in front of me, his body in a protective stance as he cautiously put a hand on the guy's arm, which he shook off in his anger.  "Calm down, Derek," Nick said, his voice calm and steady, not affected at the sight in front of him at all.

The guy-Derek- spat, "That's a rogue, Nick, a rogue, why would you let her join our pack?!  Are you crazy?!" Derek looked at me, a look of pure disgust and hatred written across his handsome features making me shrink back.  "A rogue," Derek spat out again and then wiped his mouth as if even saying the word disgusted him.

"I know," Nick said again in a calm and steady voice.

Derek looked disbelievingly at Nick, "You know?  If you really know, you will get her out of here right now."
