"Emma, you're not alone." He had said. Did he mean she had him now? Did he mean her parents? Was he here to stay? Why was he here?

"Why were you at the signing today?"

"For the new book-"

"That's not what I meant. Why are you here?"

"Liam died last February."

"I'm sorry..." she breathed. She knew that. That was why he was here, why he was back. "He survived 5 more years." she whispered after doing the counting in her head, smiling at the thought.

"Aye... And because of me those were his worst 5 years of his life. Remember that he didn't want to spend his last years doing painful treatments? I made the awful decision of convincing him otherwise, that, that way, he would live for more time. But Emma... he died wired to a hospital bed and in pain because of me."

"Don't do that. Don't blame yourself." She wanted to hold his hand. She wasn't good at words, she didn't know what to say.

He just sighed and licked his lips before leaning back against his chair. And in that exact moment, Mary Margaret and David came in, lots of shopping bags in their hands and according to them, there was a lot more in the car.

"Oh my god."

"We brought everything that Henry will need." Mary Margaret said posing the bags on the floor and walking to her other side to where Henry was. "David, look! He's awake now!" She herself, who was 6 months pregnant, said with enthusiasm. The enthusiasm that Emma clearly lacked.

"I'll bring him his new toy." David said bending down to the bags to look for their new purchase.

"Guys, you didn't waste too much money right?"

"Emma, don't worry about that." David told her, a fluffy boat toy in his hand.

Emma and Killian watched them in silence as they marvelled their new grandson for a while before Emma took off her contacts and said she felt really tired and needed some sleep, which left Killian in an awkward atmosphere with her parents.

He didn't want to leave the room, leave her, so he kept there on his chair, trying not to listen to their conversation but clearly understanding that they were talking about where Emma and Henry would stay now.

From eavesdropping their conversation, he discovered Emma had moved in to a small appartment on her own when they found out Mary Margaret was pregnant because they would need a new room.
But now, there was no way she was going to live alone with Henry. As Killian had learnt from her earlier, she wasn't supposed to have Henry. She was going to give him up. So she wasn't prepared to do this alone.

"I was..." he spoke, finally gaining the courage to ask them. "I have a proposition to make."

They both turned around to look at him and though Mary Margaret sat at the corner of her bed, David kept standing, making Killian nervous. They won't approve him back after he left her.

"I work at night shifts, at a nice bar... where I not only serve at the table but I also play there. Anyways, what I mean is, she could come live with me. In this moment I have two more spare rooms and I am at home during the day." As expected, he received their shocked faces at the suggestion. "I see that you're carrying a child. In a few months, it will be hard to handle everything. I'm able to help."

"Wait, the house where you used to live, with your father and brother? That's the one you're talking about?" David asked.

"Yes."

"It's near our house, David. We could be there at a distance of a call." Mary Margaret said.

"I'm not sure Emma will agree with this."

"I can talk with her."

Emma felt entrapped when they suggested his idea, and surprised when she saw that David approved it.

She didn't, couldn't, wouldn't live in his house, with him. He had his own life now, knew new people, one day he would get a girlfriend if he didn't already have one, and then what would they be? Roommates? With a newborn?

And when would she leave his house? What if she got too attached to his help and one day had to be alone? What if Henry got too attached to him, if he saw him as a father figure?

What if she falls in love with him again?

But where would she go?

She couldn't be that burden to her parents, even less now that they were starting a new family.

But she surely as hell couldn't live alone with Henry in that small appartment. She would panick, have an attack, live with the fear that she was doing something wrong and no one was there to correct her. Would she just keep annoying her parents and Killian, calling them every time she had a doubt?

"Are you sure about that?" she asked again, not knowing what to answer.

"Yes."

"Don't think you owe me, and you're doing this just becau-"

"Emma, I'm doing this simply to help you and Henry and your parents. And me also."

He was alone right now. Leaving everything behind to spend 5 years in the other corner of the world did that.

"Okay."

At the end of the afternoon, Mary Margaret went to pick up Neal from school and Killian went home to sleep a bit before doing his night shift.

They didn't want Emma to ever spend a night alone, so David would be sleeping on the sofa that opened to serve as a bed next to her.

But that night was awful. She couldn't sleep with horrible abdominal pain and she was very uncomfortable with her saturated sanitary pad from her blood loss.

She felt like something was wrong because no one had told her this was supposed to hurt like this.

She blamed herself because she hadn't paid attention to what her doctors told her during the pregnancy, if she had read flyers, read books, googled information, she'd know what was wrong.

After an hour of turning and sighing in frustration with David sound asleep on the couch next to her, she succeeded in falling asleep.

But then, she woke up with an intense and sudden pain on her chest, her pulse rapid, the machine beeping and her covers stained with blood.

MHAUHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH thoughts on what could be happening here?
