"All your things and Henry's stuff is already there. Killian told me about the crib that has arrived this morning, ah.... the wardrobe is already on its way, we couldn't get it sooner. The walls are freshly painted, I was there yesterday with him. It looked lovely, Emma. Henry's going to love it." David told her as they walked from his truck to Killian's front door. "Oh and there's also Buckley."A week finally passed and she was back to real life, well, an even more realistic life now with Henry.
"He still has Buckley?" She asked surprised.
"Right? It stayed here for some years with someone he found online but then Killian missed Buckley. So, the old lady who was with the dog was nice enough to send it to Ireland, to Killian."
"That's really nice. I miss Buckley."
"It brings back old memories, doesn't it? I mean all this... This house, the garden..."
"It does." They stopped at the porch and she took that moment to just breathe.
"Are you sure about this, sweetheart? You can still change your mind. We can help you with Henry-"
"No, no. I- this is the best for us. It'll be okay."
Killian had told them he'd be sleeping so he gave him already what would be Emma's keys.
They entered in the house knowing he was asleep in his bedroom and were welcomed with Buckley jumping at them.Emma quickly held Henry who was sleeping in her arms higher so the dog couldn't reach him.
"Maybe a dog with a newborn isn't a good idea-" David, as the father figure he was, started worrying about this, worrying that this wouldn't be the best to her daughter and his new grandson.
"It's okay. He's just excited because I haven't seen him in years- isn't it, Bucks? I missed you! Look at you all grown-up!" She played with one of her hands with him as he jumped excitedly to bite her fingers.
"I'll wake up Killian."
"Wha- Why?"
"He told me to wake him once we were here."
"Let him sleep, seriously. He's been working all night."
"There's no need, I'm awake." Killian appeared like from no where and spoke with his rough voice from sleep. And the sight of him... bed hair and an old wasted shirt with jeans that he clearly had put on just because they were here.
The house gave her a feeling of nostalgia. It was like every wall she looked, every corner, reminded her of moments she spent with him and their old friends back in high school.
"So has David showed you the rooms?" He asked as he turned on the coffee machine and held two cups.
"No, we... just got here, actually. This is all so different." So far, she only had seen the living room and kitchen. Sure, the house was the same, but the furniture, the colors, it was like he made sure it was all different. "It's nice."
"You did a great job here, Killian." David said. "Can we show Emma her bedroom? I need to place the rest of her stuff there." he said showing him the bags she had brought from the hospital, Henry's new diaper bag and the bag with the breast pump in it.
"Sure" he mumbled before walking upstairs to Emma's bedroom. Emma, Henry and David followed him.
"Your bedroom still needs some things. Some of the furniture is still on its way here, it shall arrive tomorrow or the day after. I didn't know what color you wanted for the walls so I chose yellow. Thought you needed some color in your life, love."
He remembers her old bedroom back in the teenager days, her walls pallid and blank, two bedside tables, a wardrobe, a desk and a bed, and it was all that way because she wanted it. The only way to recognize it was her bedroom was the swan necklace she had left on one of her nightstands.
They opened the door, the clean soft yellow being the first thing she noticed.
She smiled, because she knew why he had gotten that color. Her bug. Just also like in their book.
"It even matches with your yellow bug, right?" he said it then, because he knew exactly why she was smiling.
"Thank you, Killian. I didn't need all this."
A beautiful platform bed was centered in the room, white cushioned blankets and yellow pillows. A wardrobe with 6 shelves in front of it and a small television above it. A small version of it for the bedside tables, and according to Killian, there was still a mirror to come.
"It was nothing, Swan. Don't worry. Your parents helped too."
"You did?" she turned to David, surprised.
"No?" he said unconvinced even of himself.
"Guys."
"Emma, we're doing this for you. We care for you." David tried to explain.
"I don't care. I've decided, and I'm paying at least one third of all this."
"Swan, your part of the money every month will do it."
She sighed in defeat. She felt like a burden. She was a burden.
"Let's see the lad's bedroom, shall we?"
Henry's nursery made her want to cry, first because it wasn't her who made it, it was Killian, and she wasn't even present in that important moment. Second, because she could totally see a future in this house with her little son. And she only realized that when she saw the baby blue walls with white anchors around and a cot bed against the wall.
"Oh my God."
There were packed boxes from IKEA on the floor, that from what she could tell by the small image, was an unbuilt rocking chair.
"This came today. Sorry for the mess."
"It's okay. I could pass by to build this, if you want." David offered.
"I'd like some help, yes." So far he had spent many frustrating evenings following IKEA's instructions. He had paid to have the walls painted because he really didn't like those ladders - he had bad experiences climbing stairs.
"Henry... look at what Killian did for you." she breathed to little Henry in her arms. "This is your new bedroom. Our new home."
Guys I'm just welcoming you to the beginning of this fic. This might be really boring now, but I promise you it will get a lot better.
