You stared at the clock on the wall, watching the seconds tick by. The TV was on, but it was quiet, and you weren't watching it. Nothing would distract you.

Your best friend and your boyfriend had gone to fight the Alpha pack hours ago, to lure them into a trap. You hadn't expected it to take so long. You kept imagining the gruesome possible scenarios.

You stood up and sighed, beginning to pace. You couldn't take it anymore. You pulled out your phone and called Boyd. It went straight to voicemail. You left another message.

"Hey, it's [Y/N] again. I'm starting to get a little worried, so please call me when you can and let me know that you're okay. And tell Derek to call, too. Okay? Okay. Bye."

You sat back down on the couch, trying and failing to make yourself comfortable. You stared mindlessly, hollowly, at the television. Your wide eyes were peeled open; your energy came from your worry, despite how tired you were.

You were just beginning to nod off when you heard a knock at the door. You jumped up and ran over, swinging it open.

"Derek," you said, relieved to see your boyfriend alive. "You're okay!"

"Can I come in?" He asked in a flat tone.

Your face dropped as you moved aside, letting him in and closing the door. "Where's Boyd?"

He looked at the ground.

"Derek, where's Boyd?"

He started to say something, but when he looked up at you, he decided that he couldn't, and so he stood there, waiting for you to accept it.

"No," you said. "No, it's not... not real. It's not... Derek, tell me where he is. Where's Boyd, huh? Where is he?"

"[Y/N]," he took a step closer to you, putting his hand on your shoulder.

"No!" You screamed, slapping his hand away.

"I'm sorry," he said.

"No," you sobbed. "He's not..."

Derek wrapped his arms around you, and you were too upset to protest. He pat your back in a knowing way, knowing what it was like to lose a friend.

He guided you over to the couch, and let you cry on his chest until his shirt was wet with tears. You lost one of them. You lost your best friend, and even though you were lucky to still have Derek, it hurt.
