Sarah:

Thanksgiving, the most food-filled holiday ever, and with my Aunt Suzie, Uncle Nicholas, and Cousins Tiffany and Johnny making them at home, I give them welcoming hugs and did some catching up. “So how’s school going?” asked Aunt Suzie.

“Oh, it’s going great!” I say in return all enthusiastically, forcing a cheerful smile. Yeah, I’d rather lie than get them all concerned and worried about me. I just don’t want them all up in my freaking business.

While more of my relatives start to pile into my house, I start conversing with some of my cousins, talking about school and such. “Seriously?” asked Tiffany as she took a bite of her turkey.

I nod. “Yeah, I have a boyfriend,” I said in return.

“It’s about time, I was starting to get worried!” she said, giving me a big hug. (FYI, Tiffany is the only cousin that is my age.) “I bet he’s hot.”

Merely shrugging, I reply, “I don’t want to admit, but yeah he is. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not into him because of his looks.”

“Sure,” she said teasingly. Tying her wavy blonde hair into a half ponytail, her expectant blue eyes meet mine. I swear, she’s almost my identical twin—though my hair is much straighter.

“I’m serious!” I argue. “He’s funny, sweet, and he’s just amazing.”

“How long have you known him?”

That’s when I fidgeted, since telling her might only result in her giving me long lectures about relationships; she’s been in tons of them. It’s just as I expected when I answered, “A day or two…”

She smacked her head with her hand as she was just about to jump from her seat. “One day? Sarah, you’re supposed to know the guy more than just a day or two. Don’t rush things! Besides, what else do you know about this guy? Can’t you be smart about this for once?”

I shrug. “I feel like I can trust him.”

She raised a brow. “Are you absolutely sure about that?” she asked, arms folded across her chest. “Have there been any doubts about this guy? Was there nothing in the back of your head that told you that maybe you should take some reconsidering.”

“Well…” I began, not wanting her to be right, but I say so anyway—but hesitantly—“yes…”

“Ugh!” she exclaimed out of annoyance. “Well, was that the majority of you?” When I nod, she continues, “Then ignore your thoughts telling you to give him a chance! Come on, woman’s intuition, Sarah, my goodness!”

“I’ve been getting that a lot recently…by a certain someone,” I mutter dreadfully.

“Well maybe this person knows something about your boyfriend that you don’t. Did you even listen and consider that person’s words?” Shaking my head, I swear she was throwing a fit. “Who was this person anyway?”

“My boyfriend’s younger brother,” I answered reluctantly.

“Aha! So he definitely knows some dark secret he’s hiding!”

“He’s not hiding something like that!” I argued.

“Why must you be defending him? Seriously, just hearing about your current boyfriend gives me bad vibes.” Tiffany heaves a sigh, slumping in her chair as she finished her turkey. “Take it from someone who’s been in a relationship like this before.” That was all she said before she stepped into the kitchen to get seconds.
