CHAPTER 73

"Alex, wake up!" Is what I hear before I am shaken awake,

"What is it?" I say warily, rubbing my eyes, as they adjusted to the light and I saw the flustered face,

"It's time to move," Demi says

"Okay, Okay, I'm getting up"

"No, I mean it's time to 'move', Alex, Bek has called it, we're moving at sun down"

I scramble up to my feet and tie my hair into a quick messy bun before following Demi downstairs.

I walked into the weapon room where Max, Will, and Logan were already waiting,

"What are you guys doing?" I ask, watching them load their guns calmly,

"We need to try and sneak out some reinforcements for the other plan"

"You mean steal?"

"What do you expect Alex, do you want me to ask Bek nicely if we can take some of his weapons for our own plan that he had nothing to do with the whole time? Sound good?" Will said arrogantly,

I looked at him, narrowing my eyes. Why was he acting weird. I stepped into the room and grabbed my own gun but before I could reload it Will grabbed it from me,

"What the hell is your problem?" I ask confusedly but with a sharp firm tone at the same time,

Max stopped to listen, putting the his shotgun down. "Alex, I know okay?"

"Know what?"

"I know about you two. And fine, we might have had a past and you don't like me that way anymore but you could've at least told me! It would've been nice to know you've been sleeping with other guys"

"We weren't sleeping together, " Max puts in,

"Save it 'pretty-boy', you got her, keep her"

Then it was silent. I just stood watching Will leave the room, leaving Logan and Demi staring at Max and I in silence. Demi didn't look surprised, but she did have that 'I knew I was right' face on. I didn't know what to say, or what to do, I just stood still. I could feel Max's eyes on me but I didn't want to look back.

Finally Logan breaks the silence,"Let's go, stop wasting time"

Stepping outside into the thin morning air, I felt the tension surround me. Everyone was scared, worried, nervous, and after what happened in the armory- a little awkward.

I felt a light tug on my arm, I turned to Max who pulled me slowly behind the group,

"What?" I say in an accidental snappy tone,

"Okay, easy there"

'Easy there'? really? He played me. He made me fall for him. Or did I do that myself?

"Max, stop"

"Stop what?"

"Stop everything. We are not going anywhere"

"I don't understand," he says stopping,

"You and I... can't be... what you imagine us to be in your head. We are two different people that deserve to lead two different lives without each other in it"

"Don't say that"

"Why not," I say tearing up, but turning away quickly before he could notice it,

"Because I know that you know that that's not true"

"Quit the crap, Max! You know the only reason you and I 'felt' anything for each other is because of the stress and the emotional detachment and the constant death that came to us. You were my relief, my chance at-"

"Your chance at forgetting? Is that what it was for you? A cure to whatever sadness and grief you trapped inside for years? Because that's not what it was for me"

"Oh yeah, I forgot, I was your 'mission'. Don't forget you were supposed to KILL me"

"But I didn't"

"Well you should've"
