You were the youngest dwarf in the company, just a decade behind Fili and Kili, yet you fit in like you were centuries wiser than any other your age. Being a close family friend of the Durin's ultimately lead to your invitation to be apart of the quest to reclaim Erebor. With thirteen dwarves and one wizard at hand, you were just missing one key member of the team. A thief.

When you first arrived at Bag End in the Shire with Fili and Kili, you were very cautious- Gandalf was being very secretive about his 'burglar' and you didn't know what lied in wait for you inside the peculiar hole in the hill. Leaving you no time to brood, Fili and Kili knocked, awaiting their host. They were both slightly taller than you, keeping you out of view of whoever was stomping towards the door. Moments later, the door opened and a grumbly voice called out "No! You can't come in, you've come to the wrong house!" Fili and Kili, disbelieving that they had gotten lost, began to sputter protests and soon after, the matter was cleared and they barged in, handing over their swords. A rather small creature appeared from behind the door with a look of befuddlement painted on his face. Only after a few seconds of silence did he notice you standing quietly out in the cold. "Oh..." He gasped, eyes widening at you. The hobbit seemed to take a second glance at you before quickly placing the weapons on the floor and dusting himself off. You watched him closely, your piercing E/C eyes scanning him. "Y/N at your service." You nodded with a small curtsy. The hobbit's mouth hung slightly ajar, as he took a moment to respond to you. "Um... I... Bilbo Baggins at yours." Bilbo mumbled clumsily, a goofy grin creeping across his pinkish cheeks. The two of you stood, him seemingly distracted by something; he just looked at you, standing in the doorway. You smiled gently at him, waiting for him to invite you in, as was common courtesy- something most dwarves lacked. Your H/C curls hid your face and your breath sent out an icy cloud as you shivered. "My goodness! You must be frozen! I'm so sorry." Bilbo stepped aside, gesturing for you to enter. Thankfully, you scurried inside, immediately feeling the warmth of a modest fire embrace your body. Joining your friends in the kitchen, you and Bilbo sat and he offered you some dinner which you politely accepted. You noticed, even when you weren't directly looking at him, that Bilbo seemed somewhat fascinated with you, for he was always glancing at you or smiling to himself when you spoke to him. Often his eyes trailed after you as you glided about the room.

Once everybody had arrived, business really began. When Bilbo was excluded from the conversation you found yourself feeling a bit sorry for him, and wishing he would come and sit with you. But to say such a thing would be out of place, you knew that deep down. Still, you couldn't help but think about Bilbo's dark blond- ginger curls and his friendly smile. What are you doing?! You should be focusing on the journey. It's a very serious matter. You wondered if Bilbo would agree to join the company. He doesn't seem like a burglar. He's far too kind... And handsome... And funny... STOP! You mentally scolded yourself, you had to stop being so ridiculous. You were so caught up in your thoughts, you hadn't noticed the company had stopped conversing and were all staring at you. Thorin arched an eyebrow at you "So Y/N what do you think?" You paused... You weren't listening, you weren't sure what was going on. "About what?" You questioned. "About the plan Y/N." Thorin replied sharply. Panicking, you stuttered a bit "Well, I think. Maybe. It's just. We could... Nevermind." You sighed and then excused yourself from the meeting. "I just need some air." Pushing your chair out, you turned uncomfortably and left the room as all eyes bore into your back. Passing through the corridors you searched for the exit. You bumped into Bilbo along the way who was surprised to see you. "Hello again Y/N. Where are you headed? You're not leaving, are you?" He frowned. "No, I'm just clearing my head thank you Bilbo." You nodded curtly. "Are you okay?" His eyebrows knitted together in concern. "Yes, fine, just distracted." For some reason, you found it very difficult to make eye contact with him, for when you did, you felt your heart race a million times faster than normal. Bilbo lightly placed a hand on your arm and offered you some company outside.

Once you had accepted his offer, he led you outside to a small bench where the two of you sat and chatted. He was so easy to speak to, so good at listening, and equally as good at telling stories. "Y/N, might I ask you a question which may seem slightly forward?" He interrupted your conversation suddenly. Contemplating what might be bothering him, your curiosity got the better of you and you nodded. "I believe the other dwarves plan to ask me to join the fellowship, but I cannot think of many reasons too. And it seems none of them particularly want me around. Do you want me to come with you to Erebor?" You froze. Why did it matter what you wanted? Thinking for a minute, you replied "I have enjoyed your company very much Bilbo, I should like to get to know you better if you choose to join us on our quest." A rather simplistic but truthful answer. "I see. I would like you to know though, I think you alone are reason enough to join the fellowship. You are beautiful and kind, and funny and I have barely known you a day. If we were to spend more time together, I might find myself completely infatuated by you." It took you a moment to realise he was joking. You giggled childishly, blushing at his words "I believe I may find myself in the same situation. And who knows, after long, we may even find ourselves courting!" He beamed at you, while you smiled shyly. "Y/N, may I... May I kiss you?" Bilbo whispered nervously. Surprised, you stared at him. You could see his demeanour change to one of embarrassment. He began to apologise but not before you placed a quick and gentle kiss on his lips causing him to flush an alarming pink. With a newfound confidence you stood, smirking down at him. "The next time that happens will be on the long road to Erebor." Sauntering inside, you waited until you were out of Bilbo's sight to let out a gleeful squeal. How wonderful! Feeling uncontrollably giddy, you strolled back into the meeting and announced "Well boys, we just got ourselves a burglar..."
