(During the battle for Erebor)

Slashing, scoring, shredding every creature that came within striking distance. How long had it been since the bloodshed began? Minutes? Hours? It felt like an eternity. Lacerations decorated your frame like ribbon on a gift. As you stumbled through the maze of lost limbs, the blood watered the grass, squishing between your toes. You wanted so badly to believe it was just mud, like when you were a child playing in the fields and forests. But your mind would not allow you to hide from reality. Littering the rolling fields were the insides of a thousand beings. Thorin and the other dwarves had scattered throughout the ruins. Goodness knows what was keeping them. Meanwhile, you had joined the ranks of Iron Hill dwarves, humans and elves. Oh, how your heart leapt when the mass of gold armour appeared from the ruins of Dale. The elves had come in your time of need. But, you still hadn't seen him. He, who you ached to hold and longed for from the moment you turned away. Thranduil...

"I don't want your forgiveness anymore, and you shall not have mine."

Those many months ago, when you ran from Thranduil's caverns you really believed you could make a difference to the world. Yet, here you are still. You changed nothing. Thranduil was right, and you never got to tell him. Never got to apologise. You had caught up with the company of Thorin Oakenshield and followed them on their journey. You grew quite fond of the funny and loyal creatures. You stayed with them and soon found yourself among thousands of soldiers, fighting for freedom.

To the left of you, an orc crept quietly, hands twitching hungrily. You dissevered it with one swipe of your sword. Raking your way across the field, others marvelled at your skill, a girl, an unstoppable motion. But you grew tiresome. Hoards of orcs flooded the ground, met by a few thousand good souls. It seemed as if all was lost as bodies dropped at an alarming speed. Still you hacked the heads off of the foul orcs. With a moment to spare, you laughed lightly to yourself; before you were fighting for peace, now you're just fighting.

A glare in the distance caught your eye. Upon the hill stood a noble and majestic Elk and its rider... Your king. Could it be?

NO! You were hallucinating. He was not there. He couldn't be there. Tearing your eyes away, you focused on the carnage, and it took every ounce of will power not to glance again. And you could not bear it for long. When your wide eyes flashed up to the hill, your heart fell faster than bomb. You were greeted with nothing. You were right. He had not come.

Sweat gathered on your brow and you found yourself side by side with a peculiar-looking dwarf. He smiled at you before plunging his spear into the chest of an approaching enemy. Each stroke became sloppier as you wearied, each breath more laborious. 'Please' you thought 'I need you.' Fumbling for the dagger which was caught in your belt, you backed away from an orc that stalked after you. You couldn't free the weapon and panic arose in your chest as the orc closed in on you. You walked backwards into someone, and they did not hesitate as they pushed you behind them and beheaded the orc that was after you. Steadying your breath, you frowned at the man towering above you. When he turned, you were greeted with a wide and piercing pair of icy, blue eyes. Tears pricked in your eyes as took in his form. He was much the same, apart from the dark circles around his eyes, he was so tired. "Y/N..." Thranduil whispered as he reached for you. His pale hand was outstretched, but you brushed it aside and leapt into his arms. Though slightly taken back, he immediately tightened his grip on you. You could feel him shaking violently and it broke your heart. "You were gone for so long." He sighed, placing you down but not removing his hands from around your waist. Lovingly, you laid your hands on his chest and replied "I know, but I was so wrong. Thranduil, if you can ever forgive me I-" "Forgive you?" He interrupted "You can't imagine the pain I felt when I lost you. For weeks I sat in silence, waiting for someone to say you had returned. But you didn't, and it was my fault. It is I who must ask for forgiveness." He looked away, ashamed. The attention of the fighting had been drawn to a far corner of the field. Your chest heaved as you recovered from your shock. All coherent thoughts had escaped you, and you had only one reply for him. Resting your hand on his cheek, you went up onto your tip-toes and kissed him softly. It was warm and long-awaited, full of a lifetime of love. Clearly he thought the same, as he pulled you closer and deepened the kiss. For moments, the fighting had vanished, the stench of death dispersed and you felt only peace. But it didn't last.

A cry of agony tore you from you trance, and you snapped your head to where the sound had erupted. A human, a boy, no more than fifteen was surrounded by a dozen orcs. He must have come from Dale. Like a pack of wolves after their prey, the orcs enveloped him. Trying to escape Thranduil's grasp, you stepped away, but he held tighter. "What are you doing?" He frowned. "I have to help him." You gasped. Thranduil shook his head "There are too many." With one last wriggle you broke away and looked upon your love sadly "I have to try. I love you." Hurrying to the boy, you dived into the crowd and picked them off with ease, leaving behind a bloody mass of broken bones, ripped limbs and cold corpses. Dragging the boy with you, you reappeared moments later, barely scratched. You grinned at Thranduil who was currently engaged in his own exchange with an orc. You began leading the boy to the edge of the battlefield, clearing the path for him. He thanked you and scurried away back to the ruins.

As you turned back, you came face to face with a ghastly looking pale orc. Seeing you defenceless and exposed, it waited until you met its eye before producing a dagger whipping it up the front of your torso, from your right hip, to your left shoulder. Searing pain struck you. The force and depth of the gash threw you backwards and you stumbled before hitting the ground with a thud. Red veiled your vision and you could barely hold you head up. Numbness overtook you, perhaps for the better. As your sight blackened at the edges, you could barely make out the figure which bowled into the orc and in a flash, snapped its neck. That same figure appeared by your side within seconds. You felt a cold hand graze your face as it wiped away the blood that dribbled down your chin. A voice like silk called to you "Y/N, look at me." Despite urging your head to turn, you couldn't do it. You were staring into the distance, at the green hills. When trying to talk, a faint gargling sound was all that came out. You convulsed a few times, your oxygen-deprived lungs fighting back. You realised your end would be drowning in your own blood- Pitiful. "Y/N, please. You can't do this." Thranduil let a tear roll down his cheek as he urged you to stay awake. "This is my fault. I'm so sorry." He stopped speaking to you and began to address someone else, someone who you couldn't see. His eyes called to the sky "Is this my punishment? My retribution for not loving her as I should? Take me, this is not fair! TAKE ME!" He bellowed. You did not have the strength to raise your arm, so you curled you finger tightly around his sleeve where your hand rested. He glanced down at you, and an audible sob escaped his lips at your broken form. You croaked "I'm so sorry." And smiled before closing your eyes and breathing deeply. Slowly, you were welcomed with the strange sensation of death. Your last thought was, and will always be Thranduil.

Well folks, here is part two. It's pretty grim but I thought what better way to get back into the swing of things than a brutal and bloody fight :) I know it's been a while since I updated but I've just had so much going on. Hopefully though I will start updating more regularly again. Thank you so much for almost 1k reads already, that's incredible and I appreciate it so much! See you for the next one <3
