Just a few hours ago you had been rescued from Thranduil's caverns. The guards had snatched the company from the forest and while the rest of the dwarves had been taken to the cells, Thranduil- King of the Mirkwood elves- took you aside and invited you to talk. Clearly the invitation was a formality as his guards blocked the exit and he didn't wait for you to answer.
Once you ascended the staircase, you were lead to a small sitting area. You perched on a seat with Thranduil next to you. He offered you a glass of wine, which you accepted. Taking a sip, you felt uncomfortable under Thranduil's glare. You coughed and put the glass aside, asking "Why have I been brought here, Thranduil? I could be with the others. There's nothing you'll get from me that you wouldn't get from them." He laughed but there was no enjoyment in it. With a curious gaze, he stated "I just wanted to speak to you, elf to dwarf. It's not like the rabble will miss you anyway." He referred to the dwarves as 'the rabble', not bothering to hide his contempt for them. You picked up your cup again and this time took a longer drink- though you weren't even thirsty. Thranduil grinned evilly and added "I need answers and I'm not willing to wait for them." His eyes ran up and down your body, judgementally. And I've heard that females are more susceptible to the effects of bláth macánta." Freezing, you narrowed your eyes at him, and brought the glass away from you lips. Elaborating, Thranduil nodded "It is a truth serum, my dear. Created from our very own wildflower. Sometimes I like to give our guests a taste of it. No one can resist Elvish wine." You dropped the glass in your hand, hearing it shatter as it hit the marble floor. The ruby red liquid against the pure white stone reminded you almost of blood. "Fascinating isn't it, how you can bend someone's will. You will tell me everything I want to know, and I will let you go free. Maybe. I'll tell you now though, you'll be exhausted by sundown- the side-affects can be rather nasty. Aching, hallucinations, drowsiness, perhaps death." His eyes wandered over to a vase which housed the uncommon plant. You realised that those were creating the sweet scent in the room. You glanced down at the wine; it was undeniably the same dark red colour as the flowers. Thranduil outwitted you so easily.
Shutting your eyes, you felt something spread through your veins, a tingling sensation drawing out your breath. Thranduil looked at you, proudly. Your chest heaved and you reached for the table to steady yourself. Studying you like a book, Thranduil inquired plainly "What is your name?" You bit your lip, barricading the words but they slipped through your mouth like sand in your hands "Y/N daughter of Laire." Smiling to himself, he also asked "And what is your connection to Thorin Oakenshield?" You sighed "I am a member of his company on the quest to Erebor. And..." You halted your tongue, the urge to finish the answer almost choking you. "And?" He raised an eyebrow. You muttered "And I have been courting his nephew Kili for half a year." Thranduil chuckled and teased "How adorable. Young lovers fighting for their homeland. Quite like a fairy-tale." You frowned "Just so." Thranduil's features grew darker, more serious as he growled "Now tell me about the map, and how to enter the mountain." Your eyes grew wide, you couldn't betray the company like that. But it wasn't as though you had a choice. You parted your lips to speak but only let out a small squeak, trapping the sentence in your head. Thranduil stared at you "You can't fight it Y/N, no matter how hard you try, I will get my way. Now, tell me the truth." The truth, the truth, the truth. You fiddled with you fingers and replied "The truth is... I'd have your head on a stick before you ever reached Erebor." You were gobsmacked, where did that come from? You supposed, what you said was true, it just wasn't what Thranduil had asked for. That's the thing about honesty- there is always a selective truth.
Over the next hour, Thranduil became impatient with you, unimpressed by your ability to keep information to yourself while you continued to share truths which were irrelevant- some choice descriptions of how you would kill Thranduil, and other things. Eventually, his frustration got the better of him and he ordered his guards to kill you there, in that room. You were forced onto your knees and felt a cold blade against your throat. As the guard drew back his sword, the doors flung open and a troupe of dwarves charged into the room. They tackled the guards either side of you, and you felt faintness wash through you. Hunching over, you stayed close to the ground out of the way of all the fighting. A person ran to your side- Kili. You smiled at him and watched him closely. His lips were moving but you couldn't hear his voice. He dragged you out of the room, still speaking. Once you were through the doors, a monotone ringing sound filled your ears but cleared after a few seconds. Finally, you could hear Kili's voice. "We need to get out of here now. Bilbo knows a way, come on." He took your hand and the two of you ran through the halls, the other dwarves trailing behind. Along the way you saw the most bizarre things: paintings coming to life, inanimate objects edging towards you. It was like something from a horror movie. Although, each time Kili called your name, you were pulled back into reality.
Escaping Thranduil's caverns was just the first part, now the company had to make it passed the forest and into the fields. But your legs ached and your head pounded. The effects of the bláth macánta were taking their toll on you. Kili was concerned; he didn't know about the truth serum and thought you were hurt. He kept a wary eye on you all the way to the fields where the company rested and regained their strength. There you had to endure the drug and it's power over you without frightening the rest of the company. They didn't have time to worry about you, it was better they didn't know...
Okay guys, there will be a part two to this, I just wanted to give an idea of how the story started because otherwise it seemed a bit pointless writing the second part. I hope you enjoyed and that you want to read the next part of it! Don't forget to vote/comment/add, it helps me out so much. And I will see you for part two <3
