Legolas ran after you, batting branches out of his way as he did. Giggling, you urged yourself to go faster, so he wouldn't catch you. Legolas was the only elf in Mirkwood who could match your pace, and even then he struggled. You had a natural gift of speed, as well as excellent balance and reflexes- you were deadly in a fight. Growing up together, you and Legolas had become best friends, you two were always sparring and exploring. Thranduil thought of you almost as a daughter, but he was mindful of your adventurous nature; he said it was a bad influence on Legolas.

As usual, you and Legolas had run off into the forest to spend the afternoon enjoying each other's company. After your duties, you loved nothing better than to take the horses out or practice your archery. This afternoon however, you were feeling a bit more daring. Your long strides carried you through the forest at a remarkable pace, but you soon found yourself lost in a tangle of trees and nettles. You slowed to a jog and then stopped altogether. Taking a few unsure steps, you waited for Legolas, who appeared by your side moments later. "What's wrong Y/N?" He asked, frowning. "I have not been to this part of the forest before." You mumbled, scanning your surroundings. You heard the faint bubbling of water. At first you believed it to be a stream, but you realised it was much too powerful. Following the noise, you drew near a clearing.

Bursting free of the surrounding trees, you found yourself a few metres from the edge of a cliff. Shuffling closer, you peered over and saw a deep pool at the bottom. This pool must have branched off of the river. Smiling you turned back to Legolas, who was eyeing the area warily. "You know... It's not that far down. I'm sure the water will be nice and cool." You grinned excitedly. Legolas's eyes widened as he figured out what you meant. "No, Y/N. My father wouldn't like that. We shouldn't even be here. If we didn't know about this place before now, my father certainly doesn't." You tutted "Come on! Don't be so paranoid. It's not like he's going to find us all the way out here." You spoke confidently, dropping your bow and arrow by a tree. Legolas still shook his head "Please can we just go? We will come back another day, when we have scouted the area properly." He begged you. You taunted him "Since when does Prince Legolas want to do things properly?"  You smirked. Slowly, you edged closer to the drop. Legolas's heart raced. "Stop it. Don't do that. Daro." Moving ever nearer to the top of the cliff, you put an arm out so that you were already reaching over the side. "Y/N! Daro í." Legolas pleaded. You faced him, your heels aligned with the very edge. You put your arms out either side of you, like spreading your wings, and whispered "You'll have to catch me." With that, you gently dropped over the side. Legolas ran to you but was too late. You were falling gracefully, like a leaf from a tree. Bringing your arms together above your head while you were metres in the air, you entered the water elegantly, hardly disturbing the surface. For what felt like an age, you had disappeared into the blue. Gasping, Legolas felt panic rising in his chest, when all of a sudden you broke the surface and took a deep breath. Laughing you called up to Legolas "Come down! The water's lovely." Legolas smiled at you 'The things I do for her.'  He thought to himself. Placing his bow and arrow aside, he paused a few feet from the edge, and ran. Kicking off the rock, he lifted into the air and then gravity coaxed him down. Curling up tightly, he hit the water forcefully and caused a massive splash. The two of you swam, flicking water at each other every so often. Legolas ducked under the water, hidden from your view. You waited, not knowing where he had gone, when you felt yourself being lifted into the air and thrown into the water. You gave a shrill cry as you landed, but you were only joking. Swimming over to you, Legolas put an arm around your waist. You hadn't expected this and felt chills run over your skin. The water had soaked your clothes, so you could feel his cold skin on yours. Obviously as you and Legolas had grown older there were implications that the love you had for each other was more than friendly, but nothing so bold as this. Holding you close, Legolas used his free arm to paddle to the bank where you two crawled onto the forest floor and caught your breath.
