Dumb/Cliché Fanfic Thing: Editing
When authors don't take the time to go back and re-read what they wrote, that bothers me. Especially when the author makes a mistake every other sentence that could have been easily been avoided or seen while re-reading.
If you want a good story, you have to edit and revise it. That doesn't mean go back a month after you finished it with a red pen and go crazy (though that'd definitely help); that means just re-read your chapters and correct any errors you see.
You could even just re-read it immediately after you finish writing it. Just make an effort to make the story good.
