Dumb/Cliché Fanfic Thing: Main Character
It annoys me, and it's possible that I'm the only one annoyed by this, when the main girl is better then the guy. Seriously, it drives me up the wall.
If the guy is a genius and graduated when he was 16, then the main girl graduated when she was 15. If the guy is a well know and well respected police officer, then the girl is a police officer that just joined the force and can already kick any bad guy's butt. If the guy is a superhero that's well known for fighting crime, then she's a superhero that works in the shadows and "helps more people" then the guy.
Another thing to add is how the main girl has the exact same personality as the guy. If he's a shy little buttercup then she's either as or double as shy. If he can deduce someone then so can she. If he loves animals and school and taking care of the elderly then she does too.
....These aren't so much annoying as they are overused. Try something else, I guarantee you'll stand out more and be noticed quite a lot too.
