Despite receiving the second highest total score on their most recent set of exams, Yoshino Shizuka was not happy in the least.
Although Kiseki Gakuen was a prestigious high school and being the second highest ranked student in the grade meant that she had surpassed over 300 other elite students, Shizuka could only clench her fists and frown when she saw the eye-catching "2" next to her name because it meant that she had once again lost to Semi Madoka.
Damnit, how?! I was sure I'd beat him this time!
Behind her, her two best friends, Satou Mika and Mori Fuyuki shared a pointed look before they gently pulled their fuming friend away from the ranking boards.
"Now, now. Let's relax those facial muscles a bit, shall we? We wouldn't want wrinkles to form on your pretty face," consoled Mika as she poked at the space between Shizuka's brows.
Fuyuki sighed exaggeratedly as she gave Shizuka a few pats on the shoulder. "That makes it what now? 0 wins, 0 draws, and 43 losses?"
Shizuka's frown deepened as she smacked her hand away. "41 losses!"
"Ah, so after the next two exams it'll be 43 losses."
"What do you mean after the next two exams it'll be 43 losses?" Shizuka huffed angrily. "Are you insinuating that I'll lose to Semi Madoka in the following exams too? What makes you think I'll let that happen?"
"Your track record maybe? Not only have you never won against Semi-san, you've never even been able to tie with him, Shii-chan."
"That doesn't mean that I won't ever be able to win against him! Me surpassing Semi Madoka isn't an impossibility!" Shizuka puffed out her cheeks and turned her head away from Fuyuki. "Hmph. But I guess that's not something that a student ranked one hundred seventy-second could understand."
Fuyuki reached over and forcefully wrapped her arm around her friend's neck. Then, she began to roughly ruffle the other's hair. "Why you little—"
Trapped in Fuyuki's arms, Shizuka pitifully cried out," Uwah! I'm being bullied! Fuu-chan is bullying me!"
She stretched a hand out towards Mika. "Save me, Mii-chan! You have to protect me from this vicious giant!
"Giant? I'm barely 5 cm taller than you!" stressed Fuyuki as she strengthened her hold on Shizuka. "In any case, I'd rather be tall and proportionate than have a big head and short arms like you, you T-Rex!"
Shizuka gasped. "You take that back! My head is a normal size!"
Mika covered her mouth and giggled softly. Despite being third year students on the brink of graduation, her friends still liked to squabble like kindergarteners.
After letting them goof around for a bit longer, Mika finally maneuvered herself in between Shizuka and Fuyuki and separated them in a practiced manner.
