"Let me call mom and tell her I was at Mark's or something. She would be unnecessarily worried."
He searches inside all his pockets for something, while I say, "Don't worry her so much, Aiden. She doesn't deserve it."
He looks up and nods, a little smile on his lips.
He pulls out his phone from his pocket, and something else comes out with it. He doesn't notice, but I do.
"Oh man, the battery is dead. Can I borrow yours?"
I slowly take my phone out, still looking at the mysterious thing that fell out of his pocket.
As he turns around to make his call, I bend down to pick the thing up.
Its a blade. Sharp, and well maintained.
I almost spot dried stains of blood on it, but I ignore it as fragments of my messy imagination.
I ignore my beating heart too.
